One Scoop or Two?

The boys sat awkwardly in the living room of the house they had been led to, eagerly awaiting some answers. Alex lay unconscious and chained inside a cage of silver in the corner. The very sight of it made them sad and nauseous. They were annoyed by the fact their father seemed relaxed and was in no hurry to answer their questions or fix Alex. As of now, the only thing he was fixing was tea in the kitchen.

"So boys, one scoop or two?" He smiles as he opens the sugar bowl and adds one scoop to his own cup. He calmly stirred it as if it were a normal day for him. One of relaxation and tranquility. Or perhaps triumph.

"Excuse us if we aren't very interested in tea right now. We want to know what's happening to Alex and if there's a way to help her!" Ayato snapped. He was furious and sad all in the same moment. He wanted to cry, but he also wanted to break things and yell at people.

"It's only polite to take some refreshments if I am offering them. After all, hospitality can only go so far on its own." The older vampire smirked. "So I ask you all again, one scoop or two?" The boys all gave their respective answers and hesitantly took a sip of their tea. In an instant, all the cups crashed to the ground and the boys collapsed into fits of coughing and screams of agony.

"W-what IS this?" Laito gasps as he tries to breathe,  finding the action to be almost impossible.

"I'm helping you of course." Their father laughs as he watches in amusement at their struggles. After a solid five minutes of this, the boys stood up and looked at each other. They were back. They were vampires once more.

The change came as a shock to them and Reiji was the first to connect the dots. He gazed at his father with a look of both accusation and hidden hope.

"If you can give us back our powers, does that mean you can turn Alex back to normal by taking hers away?" He asks as he fixes his glasses. The answer was given by a sly smirk and the shake of a small glass bottle filled with a strange, glowing powder. The boys lit up at the news of a solution but quickly realized there had to be more to it.

"What's the catch?" Yuma asked cautiously.

"Ahh, I'm so glad you asked. I need something retrieved for me before I turn the girl back to normal. A rare artifact, a precious item, a dangerous weapon. It's all this and more. All I need is for you to get it for me and I will turn the girl back into a human." He shrugged as if it would be an easy task.

"Where do we find it, and what dangers will we face?" Ruki sighs as he considers the amount of protection this item more than likely has.

"Well, it's located in the heart of a powerful vampire. The heart is not a normal one and is made of machinery. What keeps the heart going, is a magical gem that emits extraordinary energy. With it, I can create the perfect weapon and make myself unstoppable. There are numerous other beings on the island you will also have to destroy. Bonus points if you can find the golden steed and collect its heart gem, too" KarlHeinz grins at the thought of the unimaginable power both gems would provide. The look on his face made the boys uncomfortable, but they wanted to help Alex so much they set their worries and fears aside.

"We'll do it." They all said in unison. The old man grinned and wrote down directions on a piece of paper, handing it to Reiji for safekeeping.

"This is where the vampire is hiding out. This won't be easy since he has multiple guards and henchmen protecting him, along with the power from the gem. Succeed, and Alex will return to normal. If you fail, however, then I will keep her and turn HER into my weapon. One way or another, I WILL have my desired power. Understood?" He smirks. The boys turned pale, (well, paler than usual), and gulped. Now they knew exactly what they were going to lose if they did not succeed. They would lose Alex to the chaos forever.

"Yes, understood." Reiji answers for them all.

"Oh and boys, do be careful. I'd hate for all of you to die. Then who would carry out my tasks?" KarlHeinz chuckles darkly as he waves his hand, sending them to the gate of the mansion.

"I guess this is it." Laito says with a newfound, and mostly fake, sense of courage.

"Indeed it is. Let's get moving." Reiji sighs as he and his brothers, along with Shin, Carla, and Kino, who they despised and wished death upon, made their way to their destination.

It took three days to locate the stronghold of the vampire. They had just found the island on which it resided, an island surrounded by an eerie and unsettling fog and an aura of death. The stench of blood resonated from it like a pungent odor they had come to despise. Several screams of different pitches and volumes could be faintly heard from inside, followed by insane laughter and inaudible muttering. The boys watched in dismay at the hundreds of large creatures that lurched from place to place. They had never seen anything like them. They all looked the same and gave off intense magical energy. It was clear they were summoned beasts, as they were all identical in appearance and wavelength strength. The only wavelengths that DID stand out, was from a shed which appeared to be locked not only with several padlocks, but with charms, seals, and wards as well and from inside the building. They decided the shed was the location of the steed and the vampire was obviously inside the castle. They hid behind some rocks on a smaller island a good distance away from the island and started to brainstorm. Now was the moment of truth. Either they succeed and save the girl who had given them love and won their love in return, or fail and lose her forever. It was now or never, and they would not accept failure as an option.
