It had been a long day at work and right now Caitlin just wanted to go home and sleep, especially as it was Friday. But unfortunately, she had a date tonight. She was supposed to meet the guy at Bella's, her favourite local restaurant, so it wasn't all bad. Though it would be more appetising if the guy she was meeting was someone she was really interested in. It wasn't that he seemed awful or anything like that, just that he didn't really seem like her cup of tea.
But she still put effort into her appearance and wore a nice red dress and black heels, red lipstick and dark makeup. It didn't take long until she was at Bella's, seeing at it was only a couple of blocks away from her apartment. When she arrived, he wasn't there yet so took the table and ordered a drink.
It couldn't be long until he appeared so she sat patiently, taking occasional sips of wine and looking out of the window lazily. The time seemed to fly by and he still hadn't arrived. The waiter has even asked her once or twice whether she wanted to order, she said no and said she was waiting for her date but the longer she waited the more insecure she felt. She began to feel cold and embarrassed. All dressed up and her date hadn't even bothered to show up on time.
But forty-five minutes past and he was still a no-show. It was at this point when she realised she had been stood up. Embarrassment filled her up and clogged in her belly and a part of her felt like she was going to cry. Caitlin wasn't really a crying kind of person but in this situation, she couldn't quite help it. She had never felt more humiliated in her life.
"Hey, darling, I'm so sorry I'm late, I got caught up at work," an unfamiliar voice said happily, definitely directed towards her. As soon as she looked up in confusion, she felt a soft pair of lips on hers and before she knew it someone was sitting at her table. And it certainly wasn't her date. She looked at the man in front of her with a confused expression, she had no idea who he was. Did he think that she was someone else? "I know I'm not your date but just play along," he whispered with a charming smile.
Caitlin smiled at him happily. She realised that he was trying to save her the embarrassment so had decided to help her out and pretend to be him. It was awfully kind and she had never expected this amount of kindness from anyone, let alone a complete stranger. But looking at him he was not only awfully kind but awfully handsome too.
"I'm Barry, by the way, Barry Allen," he said quietly so no one else could hear.
"Caitlin, Caitlin Snow. Thank you for this," she replied, placing her hand on his to keep up pretences.
"It's nothing, just helping out a complete stranger..." he joked, making her chuckle and shake her head. "Anyway, nice to meet you. But you must be starving after all that waiting, I know I am,"
"Yeah, I could really use a meat feast pizza right now," she nodded, placing her spare hand on her stomach.
"Meat feast, huh? You don't strike me as the meat feast type. I've always been more of a pepperoni man myself. But I do respect the meat feasters of the world," he replied jokingly, causing her to giggle.
"You seem to know a lot about pizza. I imagine you are some kind of pizza enthusiast," she responded.
"Are you ready to order, sir and ma'am?" the waiter approached.
The two of them ordered and it wasn't long until their pizzas arrived. At first, Caitlin thought that this would be a rather awkward affair with little conversation and a lot of silence. That was the evening that she had planned with her actual date and she assumed that dinner with Barry, a total stranger, would be no different. But it was, the time was flying by and she was having a great time with him, laughing and joking and getting to know each other.
