The next day, I went into the workshop, watching the Yetis make toys. They seemed to like me. I played with the elves, laughing so hard I thought my sides would split. All I could think about was Jack, though.
North walked in, waving for me to come over to him. I stood, wiping the bits of cookies from my pants.
"Katrina, I called the other guardians over for a meeting, you should join us." He gestured for me to follow him as he led me to the globe room.
Sandy and Tooth were already there, Tooth chattering with a few of her fairies speedily. Sandy waved to me when I came in, I waved back.
A hole opened up in the ground, Bunny jumped out from it, immediatly going to the fire. A window opened and Jack flew it, landing nimbly. Our eyes met from across the room, I blushed, while he smirked.
"Okay." North boomed, "I have a plan to defeat Terror," he began, looking proud, "We will ambush him at his lair. I know there will be many monsters guarding him. Tooth, Sandy, Bunny, Jack, and I will take care of the monsters. Kat will go after Terror."
"What?!" Bunny shouted, hopping away from the fireplace.
North held a hand up, "Wait, Man in Moon spoke to me. He says Katrina is the only one who is powerful enough to stop Terror"
Bunny glared at North, "No way, she is not goin' up against him by 'erself!"
North sighed, "She has to, none of us stand chance, she does, its only choice. We will hold his army of monsters back, we will be helping her," he insisted glumly.
Bunny still looked mad, "Fine, but I am going to step in if she needs our 'elp, no matter what you say!" he declared.
"Me too, I am not going to stand my and watch if she needs our help." Jack piped in.
Tooth and Sandy nodded in agreement, North didn't argue any further. He opened his mouth to speak once more-
Out of nowhere, the wall of North's workshop was busted down, I let out a yelp of surprise, covering my head against the debre.
It was Terror, a fleet of shadowy monsters behind him, "Surprise!" Terror sneered, motioning for his fearlings to attack.
I made my sword appear in my hand, whirling to meet the creatures. I slashed at the first one to try and attack me, it roared with defiance. Another monster leaped from behind me, claws outstretched. Agony erupted in my back and I screamed, falling foreward. I scrambled back to my feet, shooting shards at the fearling. The shards sunk into the creature's eyes, going right through its head. It exploded into a cloud of sand, gone. I ignored the nagging pain that split through me every time I moved. I flew into the air, landing square on the back of another fearling, slicing it's head off.
I was fighting for what seemed like an eternity, my energy was faltering. As I was fighting the hundrenth fearling since the battle started, one of the creatures lunged for me, knocking me off my feet. It pinned my hands down, cackling. I thrashed, shouting profanities. It pressed me harder into the ground, searing pain crackled through my body like lightening. I shrieked, tears blurring my vision. The monster sunk its claws into my arms so I didn't struggle any more. I let out another scream, blood running down my arm.
I heard Jack's voice, I blinked the tears from my eyes and turned my head. Jack was freezing any fearling that got in his way, struggling out of the sea of black. He flew out of the crowd of fearlings and towards me, pointing his staff at the monster pinning me.
I saw Terror rise from seemingly nowhere on a dark cloud, advancing towards Jack at an alarming rate. A wicked grin on his face.
"JACK!" I screeched, but the monster created a gag out of sand, muffling my calls.
I was too late, Terror shot a mass of sand at Jack. Jack didn't get time to make a sound before the sand wrapped around his body like a coccoon. Then sand covered his mouth, silencing his cry of surprise. I screamed into the gag, trying to break free of the monster, but it only caused it to dig its claws deeper into my flesh. Tears streamed down my face, I felt helpless, small. Jack struggled, looking at me with horror in his eyes as he fell to the ground. His staff lay on the ground next to him
One of the fearlings went over to Jack and fastened its teeth onto the restraints holding him back, dragging him back to Terror. Terror smiled at me, lifting his hand and waving goodbye cheerily. Then, in a huge explosion of sand, he, Jack, and his monsters were all gone.
I felt the weight of the creature had disappeared So I jumped to my feet, despite my wounds screaming in protest, "NO, NO, NO!" I cried, running around the room, searching for Jack desperately. He was gone. I sunk to the ground, sobbing, "No, no, no, no..." I whispered.
