"Where was I?" I trailed off as I bustled through the house. I was tidying it up before he got here...I wanted to impress him that I could take care of myself without any help, despite what he may think. It was a small place, a traditional one bedroom, one bath, with a kitchen and a den area. I liked it small. It was cozy and out of the way. The way he would've liked it.

Sliding the screen door over, I noticed that I had a tear in the paper. "Tch..!" He would see this a mile away...but I don't have time to fix it. I ignored the door and continued my errands of cleaning. Eventually, I realized that I needed to start making lunch. Time was slowly ticking away until the hour he would arrive.

Everything wasn't going according to plan, but I made it work. The house was clean and okay looking. Except for the door. My outfit of a dark blue robe with a black mesh armor tee underneath was fine. Except for my grey cargo pants, which were a bit too baggy in my taste and had a rip in the top left pocket. My hair did mostly what I wanted it to. Mostly. The blond curls responded well to a straightener, but not in a bun. So I just kept it down. Its grown since he's seen it so maybe he'll appreciate it. To my increased annoyance, I found that I was lacking a certain spice for his favorite curry.

"Damn it all!" I cursed loudly. Tears welled in my eyes. I just wanted today to be perfect for him. So I could show him.

There was a rush of wind and a whisper in my ear. "So I see that you can't take care of yourself."

I whirled around to see a man with permanent Sharingan eyes with long, pronounced tear-troughs. His black hair was pulled back into a low ponytail and his face was framed with center-parted bangs that extended to his chin. He wore his infamous Akatsuki cloak and standard outfit underneath. "Itachi.." I breathed. Quickly, I wiped the one tear that fell from my eye. Our eyes met and before I knew it, I was in his arms.

"I've missed you," I whispered as I stared into his eyes. He relaxed them into his normal onyx eyes and I smiled. The gesture meant that we were alone and safe. For now. Itachi bent down and kissed my forehead softly. I lifted my hand to caress his cheek. He leaned into it. "I'm sorry I can't stay for more than a day," Itachi said in a soft voice.

"I understand that you're passing through. I'm just glad you could lose Kisame for a day." He nodded. I smiled sweetly at him. Itachi's arms tightened around me. "Hey..." he trailed off. I gave him a confused look. "Nevermind." I knew better than to ask him. I let it go.

Itachi sniffed the air. "Something's burning."

"Damn!" I shouted and tore away from Itachi to take the food off of the burner. I sat the hot pot on the counter and shook my hands in the 'I burnt my hands' sort of way. I heard chuckling in the background. I glanced back to see Itachi holding his stomach. I scowled. Even if it's laughing at me, I still love seeing that smile of his. They keep getting rarer and rarer.

"Well...I guess lunch is ruined. I'm sorry," I said glumly. Itachi stopped laughing. "It's fine," he said sincerely. I gave in. The day was not going how I planned it, but that doesn't stop Itachi from enjoying it. I gave him the tour of the new house. He seemed impressed with it and he didn't say anything about the door. I showed him outside to the little area out back. There was a bench surrounded by flowers of all sorts of colors.

"So this is the garden you were telling me about," Itachi mused.

"Yes, I put a lot of work into it," I said, beaming.

"Should put more work into that door of yours." I cringed. I knew that was coming. "Sorry..."

Itachi looked back at me. He gave me a smile and put his hand out. I saw the invitation and took his hand in mine. His hand was so big and warm. Full of callouses and hard work. But also full of gentleness and love. We sat down on the bench and I leaned on his shoulder. We stayed like that for awhile.

I was just about to doze off when Itachi tensed. I glanced up at him and saw his Sharingan. He was staring hard at something in front of us. I shifted my head while reaching for the kuni in my robe. Standing yards away from us was a very tall shinobi with a distinctive shark-like appearance and wearing the Akatsuki robe. He smiled and noticed that his teeth were like sharks.

"So is this where you've been running off to, Itachi," the shinobi grinned. Itachi grimaced. I moved away from him. He stood up and blocked my path. "She's mine, Kisame," Itachi growled. My heart skipped a beat. This is no time for this! Kisame chuckled.

"I don't care about what you do in your free time. I'm only here to fetch you. We're off," Kisame stated with that sharp-toothed grin of his. He turned and walked off. I waited until he was out of sight before I released the breath I was holding. Itachi whirled around to face me. He grabbed my chin and forced it upwards.

"Itachi!.." I cried out.

"You tell me if anything seems off for now on. Send me frequent messages. Got it?" he said firmly. Itachi was breathing hard and I gazed sadly into his eyes. Not only does he have his illness but now me to worry about.

"Got it?!" I blinked.

"Yes, of course," I stammered. Itachi relaxed his grip on my chin a little. He bent his forehead to touch mine. He closed his eyes. "I love you."

I embraced him. "I love you too," I murmured into his ear as I stroked his hair. "I wish we had more time..sorry..."

He looked into my eyes, "Next time." Itachi affectionately poked my forehead. He turned and went after Kisame. I sighed. "Next time.."
