It was almost eight-thirty in the evening and still he was hooked with his board meeting. His assistant Carol, kept on apologizing to me on his behalf. She stayed and kept me company most of the time when she wasn't busy answering all of his business phone calls which blared excessively almost every twenty minutes.

I asked her why she didn't accompany him, just to learn that he has another male assistant who was tasked to do that.

She ordered dinner for us but I refused to eat them. My tummy wouldn't settle down. I didn't know why I was nervous.

Was it because of the 'talk' he promised to have with me tonight?

"Carol, what do you know of Miss Arradi?", I asked her while I stood over the glass window wearing my green scrubsuits, minus my labcoat now, arms crossed against my chest. I stared at the skyline city night lights which were visible from the top floor of his office building. My back was turned away from her. The past five hours I spent with her made me feel relax around her.

She told me a lot about her years working with him and that she usually calls Eric by his name only when they were alone and no other employee/visitor was around. She was a very warm, likable person and that was why I felt closer to her.

Right now, she was munching on some pastries.

"She and her family are one of the Morrison's business partners. I know they are very close too, more like childhood friends since their family are related."

"Related? How so?", I frowned slightly, glancing over my shoulder.

"I'm not quite sure but they are like cousins maybe."

"Cousins", I whispered. No wonder Eric was fond of her. Almost like she had him wrapped around her finger. But no cousins were seen dating all the time, as what those tabloid photos depicted, I said to myself.

"She's a professional model", Carol continued. "She used to do runway for DKNY and Klein. Most of the ladies and men here admires her so much. She is charming and thoughtful, unlike what they used to write in those magazines about her. Portia and Eric were both well-known celebrities during their younger years", she stated admirably.

"How many times does she go out with him?", I sounded like a police officer in an interrogation room.

"They usually go out all the time", Carol answered, unaware my mind was full of spite towards her idol. "Especially now that the company is expanding. Oh, how tiresome could Eric be with all these long meetings and travels he needs to attend to. I'm so glad he married such an understanding and patient woman like you. He really needs some good pampering and tending after his long day at work, you know", she said teasingly.

I bit my lip.

Guilty.

Understanding?

Patient?

That was not the Nicolaa standing infront of her. For that Nocolaa was long gone. Here with her was a woman driven with scorn. A Nicolaa who made herself loca, full of hate and insecurities towards a blonde ex-model turned businesswoman.

I took a deep breath.

"Carol, it's almost nine, you can go home now. I know you stayed here just to keep me company", I smiled at her so she wouldn't feel like I booted her out.

"Actually I'm also waiting for my husband", she grinned. "He's currently with your husband".

"Oh!", I giggled. "How clumsy of me."

"It's alright. Eric doesn't involve you with his line of work, I presumed."

My face sombered.

"No, he never did. This is my first time to come here."
