So I want to clear a few things up and give you some definition on things. The following information is not mine, all rights to outlast.wikia.com.
"Outlast 2 introduces you to Sullivan Knoth (the Overseer in my version) and his followers, who left our wicked world behind to give birth to Temple Gate, a town, deep in the wilderness and hidden from civilization. Knoth and his flock are preparing for the tribulations of the end of times and you're right in the thick of it." - Outlast II Steam Description.
"According to the developers, the main setting takes place in a secluded village, located somewhere in the canyons of Arizona." Now, in my version, Josh and Brendon are from Nevada and shortly after an argument between the two, Josh decides he's had enough of the space and makes his way to Brendon's house just down the street. After making up and maybe, maybe not having make up sex, they fall asleep. During that time, Brendon's family is quick to the action. They drug Josh and Brendon, essentially kidnap them and take them to this village in Arizona where then, all the things stated in the first chapter take place. Brendon's family are apart of the Christians, let's clear that one up. They try to kill Josh, and when they think he's dead, they throw him into the river as stated. Brendon is there for the whole things and he's been tied up. The Christians leave and that's when the Heretics come in. They take Josh and Brendon to one of the main homes where they're locked up in a basement, and they leave them there. Tyler and Dallon heard about this and with the way they feel about one another, unknowingly that is, they decide that they want to help Josh and Brendon escape.
If you've never seen walkthroughs of the Outlast games or have ever played them, here's a little summary on the second one, which is what this story was based on. "Testament of the New Ezekiel is an antagonistic cult led by Sullivan Knoth that appears in Outlast 2. The group resides in a remote settlement know as Temple Gate. The cult's insignia is a cross with two interlocking wheels in reference to the prophet Ezekiel's vision. Their goal is to prevent the Anti-Christ from being born through systematic child murder. In reality, it is likely that they do not have any divine visions but have been driven insane by a malfunctioning experiment created by the Murkoff Corporation. The sect has two splinter groups that accompany it throughout the outskirts of Temple Gate - The Heretics, a separate cult who believe the Anti-Christ should be born, and The Scalled, former members of the Testament dissolved into freakish monstrosities via severe diseases and exiled out into the nearby forests." The Scalled being the quarantined that Tyler had mentioned about being behind that fence.
So that's that on the whole cult, information thing. I did not include the Murkoff Corp experiment in this because it's a little confusing to write out and in itself. The only thing I matched up was the cult, the antichrist and the Heretics and Christians.
More on Josh's character: yes, he's transgender. I thought that'd be an interesting plot twist to make things make sense more, hence the antichrist and the pregnancy. Now! Okay, stay with me alright? Josh was pregnant. The entire time, he was pregnant, up until the very end where, in the mines he doubled over in pain and outside where Brendon saw him with Ashley, bleeding out of his groin area. All of that was a miscarriage due to the stress put on Josh, but near the end where the Overseer said to "crush the skull under your heel" he thinks the baby is still inside of Josh and he meant for Brendon to crush Josh's skull. Kill the mother, kill the baby.
Tyler and Dallon: I'm not sure where they are, maybe they're still alive? Maybe they're dead? Maybe when Brendon, Josh and Ashley got out, they called for help and then Tyler and Dallon were rescued? You may never know, I'm not sure. Let me know though if you'd like to see an epilogue.
That's as much as I can remember, needing to explain and such but please let me know if I've missed anything or if you thought of something that needs clearing up.
Thanks for reading, once again, and... God loves you. -Luke. X
