That was him-her. Night was a girl, and I had kissed the legend I was on a mission to hunt down. Not only had I kissed her, but I like it. A lot. And some selfish, rebellious part of me wanted to not call the Republic, and to just leave be and be with this girl. But the Prodigy part of me knew what needed to be done.

"Daniel?" Metal's voice rang in my ear.

"I found her," I whispered, the chain in my pocket suddenly heavy.

"Her? Night's a girl?"

"Yes, She's in this abandoned hospital in Lake sector. Its right on the beach, across from the market. You'll need to infiltrate the roof and beach quietly. She drank some sort of alcohol, so she'll be out. You can get her now if you work quietly."

"We'll be there in ten. Keep your eyes on her, throw a something out a window if she wakes up."

"Yes, Captain Iparis."

I went inside, finding Night and Tess asleep next to each other in the room. I held a rock in my hand, ready to throw out the window if necessary. What would happen when the Republic got her? Kill her, probably. She had done a lot of bad-to the republic anyway.

But what about the thing she said-the republic was feeding the plague into the poorer sectors? That can't be true. The republic has done so much good for me. I saw a car's headlight shine onto the building next to us.

Soldiers were here for Night, and there was no escaping for her.  I waited until the sound of footsteps filled the building. Republic Soldiers infiltrated the level. Night woke up, and I tossed the rock out the window before standing in front of it. She was dazed and drowsy.

"What's going on?" She pulled on her hat, looking out the doorway before seeing the soldiers.

"Over here!" A soldier's voice ordered.

Night scrambled to stand up, but ended up tripping over her bag in the dark. Before she could stand up, she was pinned down by a soldier. Her eyes flicked to mine with betrayal, and she broke out of his grip. She roundhouse kicked him, and I pressed myself into the window more.

"Don't move!"

Simultaneously, Night and I looked over at Tess, who was being held by a soldier, a gun pressed to her temple. Night inhaled sharply, holding her hands up slowly.

"Leave her alone, she's got nothing to do with this," Night begged as her hands were handcuffed behind her back.

"Take him to the car. Leave the little one."

"I'm a girl, imbecile!" Night snapped as she was dragged out of the room.

I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding, walking out the room after the other soldiers. "We got 'em," I said into my earpiece, even though they probably already knew she was captured.

"Nice work, Day," Metias's voice replied into my earpiece, "Commander Jameson wants you on my team, as soon as you get back, so you were bought an apartment by mine in Ruby sector."

I nodded, but I knew he didn't know I understood. I feel glad that I caught Night, but why does it feel like I made the wrong choice?
