I flipped through a file quickly, not really looking up at my patient as I rambled through the drill, "My name is Mr. Harry Styles. I am your psychiatrist. Can you tell me where you are?"
The man stared blankly at me, "I'm in the White House." His voice was monotone, most patients are too knocked up on drugs to have control over their voice patterns.
"Good good." I checked off a box on the paper. I couldn't help but keep glancing at the clock, it was almost lunch time, "Do you know why you are here?"
A grin grew on his face, "Because, sir, I am a good man." He started laughing, the chains on his arms and around his ankles clinked together.
I pursed my lips, not finding his sense of humor amusing, "Greg you were sent here because of you killing your mother-"
"So!" He snapped, rising out of his chair. The guards in the corner of the room finally made any moves. I waved my hand signaling everything is fine, "A lot of people accidently kill their mother all the time!"
"Who accidently chops their mother's head off with an ax?" I retorted back sarcastically, a tactic I used to get reactions out of my patients.
"PEOPLE LIKE ME!" He yelled, then he stood abruptly out of his chair back and started yanking at his chains shouting, "I'M INNOCENT! I'M INNOCENT!"
I twirled my finger, telling the guards to take him away. I sighed, running a hand through my curly hair. I could still hear his screams dance through my head as I bumped into Howard and another co-worker of mine, a guard named Liam. Both Howard and Liam were five foot eleven with a muscular build. They act the same and came up the same. The only two differences in them are where they're from and their skin tones.
"That dude is a total whack job." Liam shook his head, adjusting his weapon on his belt.
"It's just all that medicine he's taking, no one can think straight like that."
Howard and Liam just looked at me and snorted. We took a left down the hall and saw the backs of many people crowded near the front entrance. Howard checked his watch, "Oh shit it is lunch time! She's going to be here."
"Who is?" Liam asked.
I shook my head and shrugged, "This missing girl from Texas. She's been gone for almost over ten years and then she just shows up in someone's drive way."
"Here? How did she end up two states away?"
"That's why they brought her here. To figure the how."
"Don't forget that she murdered twenty plus people and she's a total psycho." Howard added, squeezing past people. Liam and I just followed in the path he cut through the crowd. Soon we were outside on the front steps, watching the road.
"Hey, you don't know she did that." I said.
Howard turned to me, shading his eyes from the sun with his brown skinned hand, "Harry, have I ever told you that your optimism can be a blessing and a curse."
I frowned, "Shut up."
"It's true, you should let go of that in this job. Just think of them as inventory. If you think of them that way, then you'll see why we have our jobs." Liam agreed with Howard. I just rolled my eyes and crossed my arms, focusing on the road.
My phone started ringing in my pocket, I turned slightly to retrieve it from my white uniform pants. The caller ID read that it was Olivia, "Hey babe."
"Harry, oh I thought you weren't going to answer." I could hear the relief in her words, and the sound of her job in the background. She was a daycare teacher.
