The battlefield

I grab my sword, sheathing them in the straps on my back. My leather bodice fit snug around my torso and my battle skirt short leather with a long black cloth on the front and back.  My boots fit allowing me to move quickly and quietly.  I strap a dagger to my thigh and quickly run out the door to the scene.

The battle already thick, and in my sight, creatures I've never seen before. I watch as some of those creatures come in from the port and run over there. I hear a woman scream and the creature rips her in half. Behind the severed torso, I come face to face with the beast. It walks like man, has the legs of man. But the torso is that of a bull. It's teeth, sharp, stained with blood. I sneer at the creature before stabbing a sword through its skull, instantly killing it.

Adrenaline rushing through my veins, had the creature knocked backed with a kick to its chest. One grabbed me, attempting to crush me against it's chest. I grab the dagger from my thigh and repeated stabbed it in the stomach. Once it let me go, I ran to a wall, kicked myself off of it and with one swift movement of one of my swords, decapitated the beast.

That was all of them at the docks. Only two. There's more of them somewhere. I lean back against the wall, closing my eyes to catch my breath.

"What are you doing just standing there?" A familiar voice scolded.

I open my eyes to see him once more. The olive toned skin with the mark trailing his bicep, going across his back and just over his left eye.

"Kratos?" I mutter.

"Let's go," he yells out.

"What was that?" I ask him.

"A Minotaur," he tells me, walking away ", there's more in the city."

"Kratos, why are you here? You disappeared after that night," I ask him.

"I'll answer that if you survive,"he tells me.

I take that as my cue to follow him. Sheathing my swords I follow behind him.

"Your wife and daughter miss you," I tell him ",Calliope? She looks like you."

He says nothing in response to this. He just walks, shoulders tensed ready to kill any attacker.  A few legionares block our path, armed and ready. I pull Kratos behind the wall.

"What the hell?" He whisper yelled to me.

"There's three legionares blocking the path. There's two more posted at a higher ground with bows," I tell him.

He turns to take a quick peak.

"Can you climb?" He asks me.

I nod.

"Good, climb this wall to get to that legionare on the left side," he tells me.

"And I'm guess you're gonna do the same with the right?" I ask him.

"Exactly and then we'll jump down and take out those three," he tells me.

I nod and begin climbing up the wall. I look to the side and see Kratos following my pace. We reach just below the top and he gives me a nod. I launch myself up onto the roof silently, pulling out my dagger as I do. I crouch behind some boxes as some sort of protection. I look and notice Kratos still on the ledge.

What is he waiting for? I let out a small growl and hurl my dagger towards the legionare, know I hit the target hearing the knife plunge in with a wet, sticky sound.

Just as he slices off the head of the legionare of the other side, five more appear from behind me. I turn around, plunging my sword into the one in the middle as Kratos jumps across. I duck down as he hurls his blade to the four remaining legionnares and take in the image of his blades. Large blades attached to chains. The ultimate weapon. I stand after the blades retract back to him.

"Ghost of Sparta?" I mumble.

"Do you still wish to fight along side me?" He asks, a certain tone to his voice. As if he thinks my realization of who he is would keep me from doing so, he's dead wrong. He glares at me with a ferocity, telling of his battles.

I walk up to him, and punch him lightly in the chest.

"I still do," I tell him.

"We need to get to the oracle," he tells me.

I nod and jump off the roof, both swords going straight through the skulls of two legionares. I yank them out of their limo bodies and kick the remaining in the chest, knocking it into a wall. Kratos makes his way to that same legionare, smashing it's head in.

Quickly, we make our way to the temple of the Oracle. The Oracle of Athens. We get there and some of it is in ruins. Two legionares guard the door. I make my way forward pulling out my swords.

All of a sudden, I'm yanked back, out of sight. Kratos, holds me against him. The familiarity of the situation bringing back memories along with tears stinging at my eyes. I push him off me, remembering my promise.

"What the hell was that for?" I whisper yell to him.

"It's too easy," he tells me.

"What the hell do you mean?"

"I'll go first, you wait, then follow."

"Yea, because your plan worked out so well last time."

I ignore him and run towards them. Drawing both my swords, I kick myself off of a ledge, bringing my foot back. I smiled waiting for my foot to connect with their head, but it didn't. Next thing I know, my breath is forced out of me. I look up seeing the culprit to have horns in my view. Damned Minotaur. It raises it's battle axe above its head. My eyes widen as the battle as is brought down. At the last minute, I roll to the side.

I roll back on my back, bring my feet up. A kick connecting to the chest of the Minotaur knocks it back, stunning it long enough for me to quickly get up. I find a beam and begin climbing it. The Minotaur lets out a roar as it runs head first into the beam. It shakes from the force of the Minotaur, and I latch on for life.

"Dear gods, please let me live!" I cry out.

The Minotaur slams into the beam again, knocking me off. I quickly scramble off the ground. I reach behind me to grab for my swords, only they weren't there. I search quickly and find the legionares wielding them. I curse myself mentally before reaching for my dagger. That's not there either. I then realize, I never retrieved my dagger from that one legionares head. A lump rises in my throat.

The Minotaur slowly makes its way towards me, pinning me against a wall. I look left, then right. No way out, I'm pinned. The Minotaur opens its mouth wide, revealing teeth sharp enough to pierce through flesh. I stand my ground.

"If I die, I die a spartan," I tell myself.

Waiting to feel those sharp teeth to come, they don't. I look up seeing one of Kratos' blades piercing though. He thanks it out as the Minotaur falls.

"Will you listen to me next time?" He asks, seething.

I nod. He hands me a spear that he took from one of the legionares.

"You know how to use it," he asks me.

"I can figure it out pretty quickly."

He gives me a nod and motions for me to follow.

"There's more where they came from," he tells me.

After opening the gates, I then realize, this will be the fight of a life time.
