Part 8

"Well, well, well, look who we have here?"

At the sound of the voice, Katarina felt her blood retreat from her face. She knew all too well whom this voice belonged to. Yet, she would not give them the satisfaction of showing her fear.

"Marvin."

The said man chuckled. Two other guys were with him, arboring evil smirks on their faces.

"Miss me kitten?"

Katarina felt like a spider was crawling down her spine. This man was bad news. How the hell did he find her, she had been doing her best to hide from him since that time.

"What do you want from me Marvin?" Steadying herself, Katarina glared at the man in front of her. She was desperately trying to figure out how to escape from the gang.

Marvin was a tall and very muscular man in his mid thirty years old. His aggressive features where complimented by bright spiky violet hair. He was wearing a leather jacket in attempt to look more scary than he already was.

That's a nice leather jacket, too bad he is the one wearing it instead of me. Oh shut up brain, we need to concentrate!  I can't show them how much I am scared. Mu-must be s-strong.

As if he was totally aware of what was going on in his victim's head, the man's smirk grew larger.

"I want you to come back with me, like old times you know. Now be a good girl and follow us."

More shivers shook Katarina's body as she recalled what happened before she came to live with John. She had been kinda captured in a gang that was recruiting every strong people they could. The official purpose of this group was to 'help the weaker ones, for a more equal world' or something like that.

However, when the girl joined them saying she wanted the world to be more fair for people who were like her dad, she quickly understood the real meaning of this gang.

The gang was a trap for high tiers. The leader was capturing and torturing the new recruits. As Katarina learned later, he was collaborating with a biggest institution (which she didn't find the name) and obeying them.

She had been abused in many ways. They destroyed her mentally and physically as they wanted her to use her ability so that they could study her like some rat in a lab. Yet, she tried to resist and never showed them what she was truly capable of. Which led to more beatings than the others 'recruits'.

The worst part was that she couldn't tell her dad and brother as it might had put them in danger. That's why she hid the truth from them, sending them a letter which said that she had been transfered to a new school and that they were really strict so she wasn't able to go home during week-ends.

One night, Katarina somehow managed to escape this hell. She had made a friend of the boy in the cell next to hers and together they merged their abilities and destroyed a wall. Luckily enough that wall led to a cliff. They both decided to take their chance with the cliff rather than with the gang, so they jumped.

After that, Katarina never saw the other boy, she hid for some weeks before she joined her twin brother. And there she was.

The leader of this gang was no one else than Marvin.

And he was standing right in front of her.

She was so scared that she couldn't move an inch.

She was screwed.

Where can I go? Going back home is not an option, they would find John!  Might as well run and think of something on the spot.

Katarina began to run away from the men. Yet, Marvin must have known she was planning to do that as he nodded toward one of his minions. The guy quickly used his ability to catch the girl's legs in a net causing her to scream when she fell head first on the ground.

The three men began to walk in her direction.

At the same time Blyke arrived at the place. Seeing his friend on the ground, her legs trapped, he hid behind a tree making sure he hadn't been spotted. He was boiling with pure anger. He then shot a stray ray of his energy toward the guy holding the nest, causing evreyone to jump in surprise at the sudden attack. Although he was aiming at the nest's guy he touched one of the other two, causing both of them to fly backward.

With the surprise effet Katarina, her legs now free, ran away from Marvin and joined her friend.

Without wasting any time they both escaped the park, running as fast as they could, leaving behind them an isolated Marvin.

As his two minions stood up and began to run after the two teenagers their leader stopped them.

"Let them run. Who knows, we might even learn some interesting stuff from now on. We shall see what our superiors will say when I report to them. After their attempt failed on the other girl they might have new orders."
