The two girls were walking through the animal shelter. The shorter of the two, with her long black hair pulled back, kept trying to sneak off into the dog section, as the other with short blonde hair pulled her back towards the cats. Marilynn and Lilyanne. The two girls were often at the animal shelter. Everyone was used to them. No matter, everyone was confused by their friendship. Marilynn, everything about her was dark. Hair, makeup, clothes, the only thing that wasn't dark were her eyes. Those were a bright silver. And she had a fondness of dogs. Lilyanne on the other hand, was a ball of brightness and energy. Blonde hair, bright colored clothing, much like Marilynn, Lilyannes eyes were the opposite of her personality. Eyes that were virtually black. Lilyanne had an affection for cats. Volunteers from the shelter were quite shocked when they found out how close the two were. Marilynn didn't want a cat. Yet she allowed herself to be dragged to the cat section via Lilyanne. She highly doubted that she would get a cat. She didn't need one. She had the ghosts to talk to. Not that anyone know that. That was until she saw the taby. The cat was looking right at her, making a soft purring noise in its throat. Marilynn's breath caught.
"That one," she stated. Lilyanne turned and grinned.
"That one?" Lilyanne asked. Marilynn nodded. "That's Amber." Marilynn grinned while picking the cat up out of the cage. Amber purred and snuggled into her, and for the first time since Marilynn came to the orphanage, she felt at peace. The small grin that came over her face was enough to make Lilyanne start grinning. And when the two girls walked out holding Amber, the volunteers went into shock. It was official, Marilynn Hendri had gotten a cat.
