lunch
"how'd you do in baseball?" Angel asked, sitting down next to me after getting our trays.

"good. Ethan had to walk on four balls. Grayson got out at first. i got a homerun and that made both me and Ethan make it home. he said i was a natural." i shrugged, as i took a bite out of my french fries.

"who's team were you on?" she asked.

i finished my nugget and said, "Ethan and this Kylie girl were the team captains. Ethan picked me and Grayson." i sighed and Angel could tell something was wrong with me.

she set down her fork. "what's wrong, Miles?" she asked.

i looked away for a second and back at her. "it's like... Ethan obviously knows who i am. he asked for my snap. he picked me to be on his team. and yet, Grayson still has no clue who i am. sure, he's heard my name and seen my face but he obviously wants nothing to do with me. i don't know." i shrugged and looked down at my hands.

"hey." she said, causing me to look up. "it's fine. he'll notice you sooner or later just... give him time."

i nodded and decided to change the subject. "where's Veronica and Toni?"

Angel rolled her eyes. "Veronica sits with her boyfriend on Tuesdays and Fridays and Toni sits with her cousin on Tuesdays and Fridays. usually, on Tuesdays and Friday's i'd sit with Toni and her cousins, but i have you now so i don't have to deal with those lunatics. i'm talking about her cousins by the way." she laughed, as did i.

"who's Veronica's boyfriend?" i asked.

she pointed to a boy about five tables down from us who sat beside Ronni.

"him. his name is Jaxon Taylor. he's no good but Ronni won't listen to us."
she sighed. "Veronica has been my best friend for forever, but ever since Jaxon asked her out, we're not as close. you're my best friend now so.." she laughed towards the end of her sentence. "i sound like a kid."

"no, it's fine. i've been through that before. i had a best friend. her name was Sabrina Andrews. she was my best friend from kindergarten to 8th grade. but later on in the 8th grade, she started to date this guy named Cole Lodge. he was no good and i tried to tell her but she wouldn't listen. so one night we went to one of his parties and he pulled a move on me. he blamed me for it and she believed him. we haven't been best friends since and a year later he ended up cheating on her."
i finished my chicken nuggets by then.

Angel scoffed.
"that's messed up."
