MARINETTE'S POV

My scales burned as I sobbed out in agony. Although my vision was blurred by salt, anger and pain, I could still see Adrien. My Adrien, getting down and laying his life before mine, putting me before himself. His emerald irises and golden hair were all I looked at through the horror, his surrender.

I heard him lightly hiccup, a beginning symptom of a cry, as he got on his knees in surrender to the threat. What did I do to deserve him? Why is he doing this for me? He doesn't deserve to trust me so easily.

Someone gripped underneath my arms and I was carried off the side of the ship. I saw the tear-broken brown blob of the S.S. Chat Noir decrease from view as I was transferred to an unfamiliar, much bigger transport. They shoveled ocean water onto my flopping tail on the move, a mock of what I really needed, a bandaid stuck to a foot-long gash.

Once onboard, I was greeted by a tattered man with the confidence of a king. His haggard friends surrounded me, cackling at the sight of my misery. My pain gave them pleasure. Comedy. Entertainment.

"Good afternoon, Miss Marinette. Did you have a nice trip, doll?" He chuckled and squeezed my bicep as he held me up by my arm, his evil grin hovering above me.

"We hope you enjoy your stay. You won't be here long, but expect to be in top quality condition for your future buyers." He grinned, and I smacked his shin with my almost dry, miserable tail. Hard.

He stumbled and fell on his back, dropping me as well. I glared daggers at him as he got up and glared back. "She's a strong one, yet quite the brat. Add the former to the list of purchase benefits, Nathaniel." He sneered, and I grunted out of frustration. The stinging is back, and it's showing no mercy. Turning to Nathaniel angrily, he looked at me with regret, trying to mask it with pride and superiority.

"Oh!.. Yes, sir." He stuttered out. What a bad pirate. After that little reunion, an unknown man dragged me to my "new home", as I was about to grow my legs back. Nathaniel had really told them everything.

I was tossed into a glass square. It felt like the "aquariums" Adrien has explained to me, which I now hated even more than before. It was foggy, no air could get in. Only a few minutes inside my glass box and I already felt like a was suffocating in a world of gasping and lashing out of anger. It wasn't even big and roomy for my pleasure, it was about the size of a large stool, making me crouch into myself to fit. I was an object to them. Any damages, and I would most likely be punished for being a damaged product.

To add to the poor conditions in my crystal-clear cage, they kept me locked in a dark room with no natural sunlight. I had only been on this ship for what felt like very few minutes, and I was already beginning to let the depression and Stockholm syndrome sink in.

I didn't like having my tail back. It reminded me of the times when I didn't have any friends, besides Tikki of course. I miss her so much. It reminded me of the times when I didn't have Rose. Or human food. Or Adrien Agreste. All I had was a little snack shop that kids would only come to tease me at, and the joy of the sunny tide pools. Where did it all go to terribly wrong?

I ran a shaking hand over my tail, also happy that I wore a shirt today. It was soaked in with me, floating up with the levitation power it had, yet chained down by my folded arms.
