"I do." Namjoon said in a soft voice as he stared longingly into the eyes of his wife at the altar.

You sat in the benches behind them, braving a sad smile as you watched him lean forward to plant a loving kiss on her lips.

You sighed, finally the wedding was coming to an end. After months and months of helping your best friend, Namjoon, plan the wedding and forcing yourself to be happy and enthusiastic, this was the closure you needed. Namjoon was a married man now, to a beautiful and kind hearted girl, Jisoo, who he adored and dated for years.

But why... when you thought that suffocating weight could be lifted off your shoulders at last, it had the complete opposite effect? If anything, your heart felt heavier and you just wanted to crawl into a hole and cry.

You and Namjoon had been best friends ever since you were kids. He was the son of a wealthy businessman and you were just a normal girl from a working class family. But Namjoon never cared about social status. And so, when you watched him enter Seoul University, while you went to work in a 7/11 store, you didn't think that the difference in your statuses could affect your future with him.

Despite top grades, your family couldn't afford you to attend university. Namjoon offered to help you with school fees or a scholarship, but you stubbornly declined as you didn't want to take favours from him like that.

"But we've always gone to school together, Y/N... from kindergarten to high school and now you're telling me I have to go class alone?" Namjoon whined.

"Stop being a baby." You remembered telling him, "I don't wanna go university anyway."

If Namjoon wasn't talking to you on the phone right then, he would've sussed you out straight away. You were that shit of a liar.

"If you don't go university, what are you gonna do?"

"I'll find a job, just worry about yourself, okay?"

But now that you're thinking about it, if Namjoon asked you again to go with him, you would've jumped on his offer.

Because that was where he met his wife.

Your mind wandered to another memory years ago as you sat on a park bench, nervous and fidgety. You decided that this was the day to tell Namjoon how you really felt about him.

After Namjoon started university, you got to see him less and less. He got busy with studies, societies, new friends. Although he always found time with you, you missed him terribly. And the more you missed him, the more you couldn't stop your feelings for him.

"Hey!" Namjoon called out as he jogged up next to you.

You gave him a huge bright smile, your heart pounding rapidly as he plopped himself down next to you on the bench.

"Sorry I'm late, I finished class just now."

"That's okay," you said. "Joonie..."

"Hm?"

"I actually have something to say to you."

"Oh," he replied, turning to face you fully, an excitement on his face suddenly, "me too. I've got loads to tell you."

As you opened your mouth to answer him, his next words that came tumbling out of his lips stopped you dead short.

"I've got a girlfriend!" He announced happily, his face wearing probably the biggest smile that you've never seen before.

"Her name is Jisoo," Namjoon continued, as if oblivious to your heart shattering into a million pieces right in front of his eyes.

"I met her in accounting class and she..." Blablabla you heard nothing next, you just remembered withering away like a dead flower inside, while he was living in his happily ever after bubble.

What if you had gone to university with him? Would he and Jisoo have started? Would you be the girl standing at the altar now?

"Y/N!" Taehyung waved his hand in front you. You had zoned out again, and looking around, everyone had gone outside to take a group photo with the couple.

As you and Taehyung stepped outside, your eyes averted to Namjoon smiling brightly beside Jisoo, his hand holding her waist in such gentleness like she was the only one in his eyes.

Then you saw him looking around frantically before his eyes met yours. He waved his arm in the air, calling you over to him.

You shifted up to him awkwardly like a penguin, stopping by his side.

"Where the hell were you? How can my best friend not stand beside me for the big photo?!"

You chuckled awkwardly at him, faced the photographer and slapped a happy smile on your face for the millionth time that day.

Snap!

And in that very photo, with Namjoon in the middle with his wife on his right and you on his left, is where this fucked up story will start.
