You woke up with Taehyung's arms wrapped around your naked body.
Your lips curved into a tired smile as you watched him soundly asleep next to you, his breathing steady and calm.
You picked up your phone from the bedside table and your smile dropped instantly when you saw a text message from Namjoon.
'Hey, I'm sorry about last night. Can we meet again? I know I said some harsh words but I wanna make it up to you.'
You closed your eyes and sighed. This was the side of Namjoon you always loved and hate. Whenever you both argued, he was always the first to say sorry even when he wasn't in the wrong. "I hate seeing you upset," he would say but without realising it he always made you feel guilty.
You felt Taehyung stirring awake next to you.
"Did you sleep well?" He asked you sweetly, brushing a loose strand of hair out of your face.
You laid your head on his broad chest and nodded.
"Let's go out to dinner tonight." You said to him.
Taehyung looked down at you, eyebrows raised in confusion.
"Dinner? Why?"
You shrugged your shoulders slightly. "Consider it as a date."
You didn't hear Taehyung answer you for a few seconds and you looked up to see his rosy cheeks.
He's blushing.
"Okay," he said finally, a huge smile bursting on his face. "Italian tonight? I'll book a table."
"Perfect," you said, pecking him on the lips once.
You then got up and stumbled into the bathroom.
Before jumping in the shower, you sent a text back to Namjoon:
'Sorry, I'm going on a date tonight. And no, not another fucking excuse.'
***
You wished you didn't go on that bloody date tonight.
Because as soon as you walked into the Italian restaurant with Taehyung, you saw Namjoon and Jisoo dining there too.
As you walked through the restaurant to your table, you hid behind Taehyung's broad frame to avoid them seeing you.
And then as soon as you sat down, you hid your face behind the menu.
What am I doing? You groaned.
"What do you feel like eating?" You heard Taehyung ask behind the menu.
"Huh? Oh erm, carbonara will do." You said quickly, eyeing Namjoon across the room.
You then saw Namjoon looking towards your direction and you immediately panicked. "Actually Tae, can we go home? I don't fee-"
"Y/N?" You closed your eyes in defeat when Namjoon finally saw you.
"Hey, I didn't know you were eating here tonight." He said, standing beside your table. He gave Taehyung a nod, who sat tense with a poker face, and turned back to you.
"Neither did I." You murmured but Namjoon didn't hear you.
"How about we sit together?" Namjoon suggested, waving to the waiter.
"N-no. That's okay, Joonie." You said quickly in protest.
"You're not still mad at me, are you?" Namjoon asked teasingly, giving you his puppy eyes and little pout.
Cute.
"I think Jisoo would wanna spend some alone time with you."
"You know she wouldn't mind. Besides, she was saying it's been a long time she had a catch up with you." He gave you a reassuring smile and ruffled your hair.
All this time, Taehyung pursed his lips tightly shut. He knew Namjoon and Jisoo as acquaintances through you and he only attended their wedding cause you begged him so. Tonight was his date with you. Just when he thought you and him could finally move things forward, now that Namjoon was married, he had to get in the way.
You sat next to Taehyung awkward and stiff like you got something wedged in your ass crack with Namjoon and Jisoo opposite you.
You watched them closely. How Namjoon pulled the chair out for Jisoo like a gentleman, how he took her hand in his, how he wrapped his jacket round her when she got cold. Every single thing he did for her pinched your heart.
You clenched your jaw tight when you felt the tears coming. Taehyung must've noticed this, because you then felt his hand grabbing yours and you looked at him to see him giving you a comforting smile, telling you that it's okay.
When the waiter finally brought the food over, Jisoo suddenly grimaced and covered her nose and mouth as she pushed the plate of pesto pasta away in front of her.
"Sorry, my wife didn't order this." Namjoon said quickly to the waiter, taking the pesto pasta far away from her. "She's allergic to nuts."
After the waiter apologised and went to bring the correct dish for Jisoo, you almost flipped the table when you saw Namjoon leaning over Jisoo, checking she was alright.
They were beginning to annoy the hell out of you.
"So Y/N," Jisoo started, breaking your thoughts, "how is work and everything?"
You almost rolled your eyes at her.
"Fine." You said, faking a smile on your face. "Better than fine, actually. My manager at the convenience store promoted me to work at the cashier so I'll be getting a bit more pay."
You almost bit you lip at how pathetic you sounded. You really thought Namjoon and Jisoo, business people who earns more in a day than your entire month, would find that impressive?
You clenched your fist under the table when you thought how much of an embarrassment you were.
"I heard from Namjoon that sometimes you do night shifts and have to close up the store. That must be so tiring."
You hate that pity look on Jisoo's face right now. To everyone else, it was just casual chit-chat, concern from a friend. But to you, she was mocking you. Right? Yes, she must be.
"Would you consider working in Namjoon's company?" Jisoo suggested with a stupid little smile that you wanted to slap off of her face, "I'm sure there must be a position that he can find you."
Just shut the fuck up.
"I don't want your fucking sympathy, alright?!" You snapped, slamming the knife and fork down on the plate, glaring up at her.
Everyone froze and stared up at you. Taehyung and Namjoon had their mouths hanging open, Jisoo looked hurt and confused like she didn't know what she said wrong.
"Fuck this shit," you mumbled under your breath and got up to leave.
As soon as you walked out the restaurant into the streets, the tears you had been holding back finally fell.
