Hayden’s POV
I woke on Monday morning after the hellish and dramatic evening we had endured only to find Leena was not sleeping next to me. Her side of the bed was not only empty but also cold like she had been gone awhile. Panic gripped me in a tight fist and I rolled out of bed. I searched the whole house in under a second. My heart stuttered as a dreadful sick feeling sunk into me. She was gone.
“Mum!” I shouted as I pounded my fist on her bedroom door.
“Hay what is it? What’s wrong?” Mum asked anxiously as she pulled on her dressing gown.
“She’s gone Mum. Leena’s gone. I just woke up and she’s gone.” I kept repeating myself as my panic and fear claimed me which I had no control over.
“Hay are you sure she didn’t just go for her run?” Mum asked calmly while I just stared at her.
“I don’t know.” I finally said as Mum walked down the hallway and looked in Leena’s room.
“Look her iPods gone and she’s already laid out her uniform for today.” Mum said wryly.
“What if he catches her when she’s out there on her own Mum? She’s got no protection. Oh God what if he gets her.” I roared feeling my panic start to overwhelm me again.
“Hayden you need to listen to me, when she’s running she will be able to outrun anything. Nothing could catch her okay. The thing you will have to accept sooner rather than later is that her premonitions come true. We can’t prevent this from happening.” She told me the truth just as she had always done throughout my life.
It was the bare bones truth that I had been trying to avoid for so long now and it broke me. I sank to the ground unable to imagine even a second of my life without my Eileenia. But Mum was right, just like she was always right.
“I’m sorry to be harsh Hayden but as soon as we accept that this will happen then maybe we can come up with some suitable solutions.” She told me as she leaned down to give me a hug.
“This just sucks Mum.” I muttered and I felt her nod against me.
“I know but to be truthful I’m not enjoying this either. I don’t want anyone to take her away.” She whispered to me.
I heard the door downstairs open and someone chittering away. I sprang up and raced down feeling relief rush through me as I saw her. God she looked so hot in her running shorts and singlet top. I just itched to run my fingers all over her. Instead I grabbed her in a hug and she looked up incredibly surprised to see me.
“Don’t ever do that again.” I told her firmly and she pulled back to look at me with those glorious, inquisitive eyes.
“What?” She asked and I couldn’t help but smile. I was so used to her one word remarks that seemed to pack a whole lot more words into them.
“Go anywhere without telling me. I thought you were gone.” I said and I heard her gasp.
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s alright Leena, it’s just after last night I woke up and you weren’t there. Okay maybe I overreacted slightly but ugh.” I leaned my forehead on hers.
God I loved being this close to her, watching her eyes shyly lock with mine. Sometimes she seemed so brave with things like last night. Crap I had thought she ran out the door because I told her I loved her. To find that it was that evil cretin had shocked me to the point where I couldn’t even move.
“I’m sorry I worried you.” She whispered making me smile even more.
“Just wake me up and tell me you’re going next time or better yet make me get up and I’ll come with you.” I replied and I saw a funny little smile cross her face “I won’t complain honest.”
