Obsessed With Your Mess

My stomach drops when I match the face to the voice. We broke into none other than Jayden's backyard. I hadn't realized it was her house when we arrived.

She takes us in for a moment then repeats herself, "What do you think you're doing?" I continue to stare at her seeming to have lost my words.

"Get off my lawn. We'll continue this conversation later." She snaps. Her eyes are flaming with hatred.

Colby takes my hand and steers me away before I can comment. Once we're out of earshot, Colby bursts into laughter. I smile up at him quizzically.

"Her face! That look-priceless." He manages to say through laughter. I begin to laugh too and stop worrying. Maybe that was my problem. I worry too much.

He helps me into his car and I know the night is over. We pull up to my house. "I had a great time." He says. "Me too." I grin, kissing him softly.

I get out of the car looking back and smile. The first thing I notice when I arrive at my door is my parents car. Normal until I realize my parents aren't home. And then the car is...Kara's?

I open the front door and go up the steps to my room. My door is shut. It wasn't like that when I left. Maybe I'm hallucinating. I slowly open the door, feeling like I'm in a horror movie, and hear,

"Hi! Oops. We were supposed to jump in the closet and surprise you but that didn't go as planned. Anyway, SPILL. IT."

I laugh at Hannah and they all embrace me like we haven't seen each other in years. Suddenly Kara exclaims, "Holy shit, Elora! What happened to you?"

I look down at myself and laugh. I was soaked through and covered in mud and grass stains. "Um, it rained," I mutter. Hannah squeals, "Oh. My. God. Y'all are adorable!" All the other girls giggle.

"So, where did you go?" Camry asks. I could tell her curiosity was getting the best of her. I jump into the story, going into detail of the entire night. Of course, they couldn't contain their genuine happiness.

"Finally, we jumped a fence, broke into someone's trampoline, and were shocked and appalled when it turned out to be Jayden's," I said hurriedly. That was something I didn't want to explain.

Every girl gasped. "Oh, honey. You're in for it tomorrow, Elora." Camry sighs. "But we're here for you."

Colby

I drive home, my mind swimming with thoughts. I collapse on my bed, thinking of the night. Suddenly, I hear a tapping on my window. It's Mark accompanied by Jack.

Dear Lord.

They climb in, clearly amused. "How was it!" Jack shouts. They were acting like 9-year-old girls, but I loved it. "Fine," I say, shrugging like it was totally normal.

"Honey, your outfit would say otherwise," Mark says looking me up and down, pausing at my mud-stained jeans. "I mean, who wears plaid on the first date?"

I laugh and shove them both out of my room. Through the door. I didn't shove them out the window. That's murder.

"Bye Mrs. Howell!" Mark chirps. My Mom ignores them. "Thank's for the brownies."

I laugh and turn over on my bed. I can't help but smile thinking of Elora.

Elora

Last night after the girls left, I would replay the night several times in my mind, still hypnotized by my crazy love story.

At school, I caught Colby's eyes and met him at his locker. "Are we public about this, or do I need to announce it?" He grins.

I laugh and stand on my toes to kiss him. Colby mutters what sounded like a "yes" under his breath. "Do whatever you like," I say. He sucks in a breath then says, "Everyone! She's my girlfriend!"

I begin to blush and shove him into his locker. I stare at him a moment, taking everything in, then kiss him again, lingering a little longer.

He breaks the kiss then walks away. A voice interrupts my daydream. "Elora." It's Jayden. I turn around.

"Listen, Jayden. I don't want to fight with you. Can we please just go our separate ways?" I plead. She laughs. "Funny. But just so you know, I always get my way." She pauses. "By the way, you're standing in front of my locker." She pushes me out of her way.

What a brat.
