It's later in the day, grandma is still sitting in her chair, and I'm out stuck running errands for her. I walked to the convinent store on the other side of town and picked up a few things she needed to make lunch and dinner for us.

I would've drove but unlike every other 17 year old, I am yet to recieve my car so I'm stuck walking. I'm walking with a little pep in my step. It may be because of the new neighbors or just because I'm really hungry and I want grandma to make the food that's hitting my leg every time I step.

I look over at my house, walking on the opposite side of the road and wave at my grandmother. I look down both sides of the road before crossing but my grandma screams my name catching my attention.

"What?" I yell. She's making motions with her hands and I hear a honk from behind me. I jump out of the way onto the new neighbors grass.

My butt is sore and the car that almost hit me rolls down it's window.

"What the hell! You almost dented my bumper!" The boy yells at me, not wondering at all if I'm okay.

"You should've seen me coming you jerk! I have the right of way, I'm a pedestrian!" I point to myself.

He rolls his eyes at me "That law only applys if you're walking in a crosswalk not in front of my fucking driveway." He doesn't give me time to reply as he finishes going down his driveway and races down the road.

"Prick" I say under my breath and pick myself up.

"Hayden are you alright sweetie?!" My grandmother calls from her chair. She's clenching her heart and looks like she's about to get up to help me.

"I'm fine grandma! Don't get up, I'll be right over!" I dust off the dirt from my pants and look back at the house the boy came from.

I see what looks like his mother staring at me from the window, an apologetic look on her face. I sheepishly smile and jog over to my house.

My grandma consoles me as if I was really in danger of dying. I call her off, telling her she really has nothing to worry about besides snobby neighbors.

"I can't believe he almost hit you!" My grandma gushes.

"Seriously drop it, I'm fine. Let's just go make lunch, I'm starving." I help her to her feet and she kisses my cheek and wraps me in a hug.

Before we go into the house, I think it's my imagination concocking some weird image but I swear I can see the woman still staring at me from the window.

...

After lunch, grandma returns to her chair on the porch and I'm sitting next to her listening to her talk about her college trip to Guam that I've heard a million times.

I pretend to be listening but I can't. My thoughts are preoccupied with anger. I see the same car I almost came in contact with pull into the driveway across the street soon after.

I excuse myself from grandma's story to go give this asshat a piece of my mind. "Be careful honey!" She shouts behind me.

I make it over there before the boy gets out of his car. I open the door for him and grab his collar to pull him up and out of the car.

"Hey bastard! What in the world was that little stunt! You almost killed me and gave my grandmother a heart attack! You think that was funny?! That was so not cool!" I shove him up against his car.

He grabs my hands and jerks me away from him. Slamming me into another car behind me. I kick him where the sun doesn't shine and drops to his knees in front of me. I lean down to whisper in his ear so my grandmother won't hear. "Listen here, if you ever hurt me or any of my family I won't hesitate to come for you. Don't consider that a threat, it's a promise."

When I pull away from him his face looks unamused, with the slight hint of pain from where I had kicked him. "Get off my property. I can call the cops on you for what you did!" He shouts.

I laugh him off knowing he isn't serious. He pulls my hand to bring me down to his level, on my knees. "And don't think I'm kidding. If you even dare doing what you just did to me again I will have no problem eliminating the problem here- you."

I look at him with big, frighten eyes. "Get out of my sight." He whispers, letting go of my hand. I scramble to my feet. I scowl down at him, not sure how to react. I turn and leave him behind, making my way back to grandma.

I don't answer any questions she has, whatever happened between me and the boy stays between us.
