"Come to my office."

Laurent put the receiver down and headed to Larry's office.

3 weeks after Jane's leave and he was the full time assistant. He had pushed away all the funny thoughts he had after seeing Larry with Mr Francis. He chose not to concern himself with any of that and focus on his reason for coming to America which was to work and make it.

And lucky for him, he had not encountered Mr Francis again.

Laurent knocked on the door.

"Yes?"

He turned the knob and pushed the door open, walking in.

"You call."

"Yes," Larry briefly turned from his computer and pushed a file towards Laurent, before turning back to the computer. "Take this file to planning and development team and... and.... tell..." He was fully engrossed in what he was saying, drawing on his words. "... tell them to save it under issue... 'to program and package in all..."

"You are saying?"

"Huh? Oh, yeah! Issue 14 and send it to our China branch. Go."

Laurent picked up the file and glanced over the cover.

"Uh, Larry, the cover non say 14, it-"

"Can you stop talking?"

"Non, I just-"

"Please?" Larry glanced at him quickly. "Go."

Laurent nodded and did as he was told. The file clearly had issue 12 on it, but maybe it was a mistake or the release date was pushed back.

"Boss say for send this for planning and development team in China and for release it under issue 14," Laurent said passing the file to the team's leader.

"Thanks, Laurent. Is that all?"

"Yeah. You can go back for work," Laurent said and proceeded to leave.

"Wait-" The team leader called, his eyes fixed on the folder.

"What is it?"

"It says issue 12, here but you said.."

"I non say. The boss say issue 14. Maybe 12 is mistake, yeah?"

The team leader looked doubtful but nodded anyway.

"Send it today, okay? We need feedback before the end of the day," Laurent reminded him.

"Aye aye," The team leader gave a mock salute.

Laurent imitated his gesture before walking off laughing.

The day rolled by swiftly, and it was soon time to have lunch.

Laurent, as usual, ordered lunch for himself and Larry.

Larry was so engrossed in what he was doing, he didn't hear Laurent knock 4 times, neither did he notice when Laurent entered the room and called his name.

"Larry," Laurent waved a hand in front of the computer screen.

"Jesus.." Larry jumped. "Fucking Christ! Laurent, what the hell?"

"Sorry, I knocking and you non hear me," Laurent apologized.

Larry nodded. "Okay, what'd you want?" He asked in a hurry to send Laurent away and get back to his work.

"I got you lunch," Laurent pushed the bag closer to Larry.

"Okay. Thanks, you may leave."

"You going for eat that now?"

"Yeah, sure," Larry had gone back to his work.

"Okay," Laurent nodded in defeat, before turning and making his way out.

"Get your fucking ass in here now!" Larry growled on the line before dropping the call.

Laurent sat still for a moment, trying to think of what would have made Larry so upset.

He wasn't able to think of anything so he went to answer Larry.

"You call me?" Laurent peeked in.

Larry was pacing about, furious.

"Get the hell in here!"

Laurent walked in. "Is something happen?"

"What the hell did I tell you when I sent you to planning and development team?"

Laurent stared at him. "Uh.. For send the document for China for release under 12 and send it back by-"

"12 huh? So why does it have 14!?" Larry screamed.

"Sorry! You say 14, non 12," Laurent recalled.

"What? Why the fuck would I tell you 14!? It's not due for release until a month's time which is after 12!"

"Non, you clearly say 14. I as-"

"The last upgrade was 11, how the hell would we skip to 14?!"

"Larry, you non-"

"Do you have any fucking idea what you've done?" Larry took slow steps towards Laurent, flames emitting from his nostrils. "I said fucking 12! If you didn't understand why didn't you ask!? You think this is a joke!? This is my company, not some cheap store in France! I knew making you an assistant was a mistake! I knew hiring you was a mistake! I should have just said no! God!"

Laurent stood, his heart breaking. He wasn't at fault. He didn't deserve Larry's hurtful words.

"Larry, I non going for ever ruin what you work so hard for build with you blood, sweat and tears. I clearly point out you mistake, I ask you two times but you non listen for me. You ask me for leave and I leave. 'Maybe he change the update', I for think. You non let me follow for meetings so I non know. Maybe if you for give me a chance and listen for me when I talk for you, and you non hate me so much for reasons I non know maybe this non going for happen," Laurent said, taking shaky breathes.

Larry had stopped pacing.

"If there is something I can do for help, please tell me," Laurent said before turning around and leaving the office.
