Harry Potter x Reader - More Than Best Friends (Second Year)

Parseltongue

Probably not going to update until the weekends this time because my goal was four chapters before Friday so... yeah. I'll try to maybe do that again because it gets me to actually stop procrastinating but we'll see. ~Maddie

.......... Reader's Point of View ..........

   Harry and Malfoy continued to stare each other down as they waited for Killderoy to let them start. I manage to hear a faint:

   "Scared, Potter?"

   "You wish."

   Right after this, Killderoy let them start, and Harry instantly shot a spell at Malfoy. Malfoy flew backwards, and Snape forced him to sit back up again. Then Draco threw two spells at Harry, and Harry managed to dodge one of them, but the other it him in the arm and he fell over.

   Is this legal? They are literally just letting them beat each other u-

   "Remember, defensive spells!" Killderoy exclaimed in a slight panic. Well, at least he's trying to be a logical person. Didn't he say he was in Ravenclaw? Wow, sortie messed up there...

   Harry stood up quickly and shouted a defensive spell and Draco stumbled. Draco looked incredibly angry, and then said some weird word and something flew out of his wand (a/n - don't... I know what you're going to say don't do it) and landed on the floor. Hermione gasped in horror, Ron flinched, and I honestly have no idea what it was. I squinted my eyes, and realised that Harry was right in front of a snake. 

   Draco smirked in triumph, knowing Harry wouldn't know how to get rid of it. Harry just lowered his wand and stared at the snake. I held my breath; I know the teachers wouldn't let Harry be harmed, but I still knew that it could hurt him and it really scared me, because snakes have weird personalities... One moment, they're like: I won't hurt you! And the next, they're like: I WANT TO MURDER YOU!

   Yeah...

   All of the sudden, Harry and the snake seemed to freeze as they made eye contact. Harry wasn't even tense, he just stared at it like it was me and him in a staring contest. Which isn't weird at all...

   People gasped once the snake hissed at Harry and he... responded? What the HECK? Everyone just stared as Harry communicated with the snake. Even Malfoy was freaked out. Is Harry encouraging the snake to...? No, he wouldn't do that. 

   He broke his trance with the snake once Snape decided that that was enough and burned the snake alive. Which is disgusting but I'm glad that was over... Harry looked very confused once he looked around the room and saw everyone staring at him like he was some insane gorilla or something... Okay that was a weird comparison, I'm (kinda) sorry.

   Killderoy was literally shaking in fear. HERMIONE, LOOK AT HIM NOW! NOT SO GREAT, ISN'T HE?Snape was also very cautious about approaching Harry, and being the nice person I am, I dragged Harry away from all the stares and the frightened eyes. Hermione and Ron didn't follow.

   Once we had gotten to empty classroom, I closed the door.

.......... Harry's Point of View ..........

   She turned around quickly and exclaimed:

   "THAT WAS SO COOL AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND!! EVEN SNAPE WAS SCARED! TELL ME YOUR SECRETS!!!!" I winced at the volume. Before I could answer, there was a pounding on the door and (y/n) turned around again, muttering something, and then Hermione and Ron were in the room.

   "Harry! Why were you talking to a snake? It looked like you were encouraging it to try that guy! Justin or something? I don't know! What happened?" Hermione asked.

   "What're you talking about?" I asked, confused, "I was telling the snake not to strike at that person. Couldn't you hear what I was sayi-"

   "MATE, YOU'RE A PARSELMOUTH??" Ron yelled and me, (y/n), and Hermione all screeched in unison. 

   "WHAT THE HECK IS A PARSLEYMOTH??" I yelled back, and (y/n) tried to muffle a laugh. Hermione sighed before grabbing her wand and making a book appear in the air (what spell books does she read?!) and grabbing it before it fell onto the floor.

   "You speak Parseltongue, meaning you are a Parselmouth, actually. It's the language of the serpents, or snakes. Harry... it's usually a sign of dark magic. Only people known besides you to have spoken in Parseltongue are usually bad people." Hermione supplied.

   "I spoke a different language? But I didn't realise it! How can I speak a language without knowing I can?" I exclaimed. This is all so confusing; I heard myself speaking in English when I was talking to the snake. I was speaking entirely different the entire time?!

   "Well... since you've never known or realised that you speak Parseltongue, it could be that you've just heard it a lot to the point where you don't even realise you're speaking it?" (y/n) asked, and I just shook my head.

   "That's only the second time I've ever spoken to a snake before. One time it was in the zoo-"

   "What's a zoo?" Ron asked.

   "A place people can visit to see exotic animals." Hermione said.

   "-And I was speaking to a snake before Dudley shoved me over and the glass disappeared... and he fell inside the habitat thing. It was actually really funny until I wasn't given supper for the week..."

   Ron and (y/n) laughed, and Hermione tried to pretend she wasn't laughing.

   "Hey! You guys are mean; I wasn't given enough food for a week and you laugh!" I whined, and (y/n) turned towards me, covering her mouth to prevent too many laughs to come through.

   "I'm sorry, Harry-" she burst into another fit of laughter for a second, "But imagining you talking to snake through the glass and everyone in the room staring at you like you're crazy. And then the glass disappearing and... wait the snake escaped, didn't it?" 

   "Yes."

   "SSSSSS!" she hissed before laughing again. This time, though, we all joined her.

   This is going to sound cheesy, but I'm to have friends that won't hate me if I turn out to be some weird Parleymoth - was that what it was called? - and can spend my leisure time talking to snakes in a zoo habitat.
