Smut warning
June 22nd, 2024.
9:35 AM.
My eyes leave the screen of my laptop and dart towards my office door as it opens. I expect it to be Addalyn but I'm surprised when I observe the familiar curly-haired man wearing his striking black suit with a navy blue button down.
Damn.
"It's really not nice for you to show up unannounced... thought I told my assistant not to allow my business rival into my building," I grin over at him as he strolls closer to my desk.
"Ha, good luck stopping me," Harry snickers, moving around to my side of the desk and leaning down to kiss my cheek, "did you manage to get those two portfolios from the meeting this morning?"
I nod, "yeah, they were assholes about it. Apparently, because I'm a woman they enjoy making it challenging."
"I'm sorry, love," he kisses my cheek again, "need me to step in? Show them how not to be assholes?"
I shake my head. As much as I appreciate his offer of having my back and putting pig-headed businessmen in their spot, I prefer to work through the dilemmas on my own.
I don't run to Harry unless I am too far in over my head. I refuse to permit pig-headed individuals who think they're superior to tread all over me.
Taking control of Meyer Enterprise has been a challenge, and for many reasons. Harry and I both have authority in the business but he essentially handed me most the reins when we agreed that it was best for him to focus on Styles & Co and for me to leisurely help build up Logan's business that is in our possession.
What I have found to be challenging is balancing work, being a mum, and a wife.
I used to gripe at Harry for never knowing how to draw a line and now I understand how troublesome it was and still is for him. Since Alex was born, Harry has contrived to draw an austere line between business and family. For every weekend he works he makes sure to take one off. He still pulls late nights and overnighters on occasions but not as frequently as he did before we had Alex.
Harry has matured a lot more since we became a family and he has acknowledged that his business doesn't just affect him, it also affects me and our son.
Taking over Logan's company and having the privilege to operate most the reins has made me realise just how hard Harry has worked over the years. And I haven't even seen the half of what goes on in the business. I'm lucky, I have Harry to help me and to be my resting shoulder to lean on—Harry had nobody to lean on— all he had was himself.
I give him a lot more credit now than I ever did before. Throughout this process of taking over a company, he has continuously made sure to help me and to never leave me hanging in the business world.
There was a night he discovered me asleep in the living room while surrounded by documents that required sorting, a simple task that Harry had done countless times at ungodly hours. He didn't bother to wake me, instead, he draped a blanket over me and allowed me to sleep while he finished sorting the documents in the order they needed to be in. Despite what people think about having a successful CEO as my husband and somewhat competitor, it has its perks. I have always complained about filing documents on my own and not having a filing clerk, but as Harry says, "you can't always trust other people with documents, love. You have to suck it up and do it yourself to secure the safety of your clients and you. Now chop-chop, your files won't file themselves."
Harry and I have taken turns with the business world, managing to obtain a happy medium that works well with the two of us and balancing both companies.
