Chapter Two

And I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. When I saw her, I marveled greatly.

            *Revelation 17:6

I knew the nice dreams of babes on beaches wouldn't last, or at least it wouldn't last long... it seemed like seconds after I was in a deep trance by the fake tans and dyed-too-much hair that it all transformed. And that's when it got freaky...

The warm blue water turned into frigid ice-fishing cold water. I shivered involuntary and wrapped my bare arms around my half-naked body. Hey, I was AT the beach, too bad my mind wasn't clever enough to dream up a nice wool jacket. The chicks turned into towering trees that were... well, green. It all had happened so fast my swimming trunks were still dripping wet; the warm water clung to my skin and seemed to make the temperature drop even more around my icy body. Pizza sounded really good right now...

A cackle through the wind that had something of laughter to it startled me and jolted me from my pizza thoughts. Whipping my head around I didn't see anything, then hot breath on the back of my neck. I stiffened, what the hell was that? There hadn't been a sound or anything for miles, just tall scary looking trees and then frozen water/ice covering the ground. I turned around trying to see if my hallucination was going to come out and say hi, nothing was there. I sighed, baffled.

"Looking for me?" The same melancholy voice scratched at me like a bucket of snakes. It was the hardest thing trying to find the cause of the voice, searching for the same blonde hair was aggravating. I still looked even though I didn't want to see those scary red eyes again. I mean come on! Scary!

"Yeah, why don't you come out so I can see you?" I retorted hoping the red eyes were just part of that nightmare, not this one. I wish I could control my dreams, make her really nice and well she already was pretty so there was no need to alter it.

"I am out... you just can't see me." Was it just me or did she sound condescending? Like she was playing a game with my mind, this is ridiculous this girl doesn't even exist! A figment of my imagination, even though my imagination couldn't fill a bucket!

"Why can't I see you?" My face scrunched up like I was thinking really hard, I was, kinda. I wanted to know where she was, I needed to ask her some things. Even though it was just a dream, I needed dream closure... sure whatever that is!

"Because I don't want you to," she stated simply, it drove me crazy made me want to punch a wall! I'd never experienced a dream like this, a dream that made me so angry and excited all at the same time. I felt the hairs on my neck prick up and my body stiffened; I turned and was face to face with the blonde. Red eyes, red lips, red dress. My breath came out shaky, I couldn't control it. It felt like she was hypnotizing me, I blinked and looked down. The spell was broken, but then my ears were filled with a scream.

I felt like my ears were going to explode the intensity was too much. I covered them with my hands looking down at the ground to try and find something to stop the noise with; a club-like stick was next to me on my left, only a couple feet away. I lunged for it without thinking. The hard, icy lake slapped my bare chest, knocking the wind out of me and causing my vision to blur for a half second too long.

I was flipped over and saw the blonde on top of me, again, but this time she was clawing at me begging me to look at her. She kept screaming like a Banshee, gripping my throat trying to bring my head up to hers.
