Chapter Nine

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal."

            *Matthew 6:19*

I couldn't really believe this day, I mean finding out about the Pych's and Undead, it was... unreal! But it had felt like I had already known this but hadn't exactly realized it. I felt like some sick joke was being pulled on me but I knew what everyone was telling me was true; humans weren't the only species out there. Guess I outta get used to it, I can't imagine this all going away anymore. Truth be told, I didn't want it to end. I didn't want to go back to being ignorant, I liked knowing but my philosophy still stands about knowing too much.

"Are you still butthurt that I got to come?" Temple asked next to me in the passenger seat, yeah she finally got shotgun for once. To be honest I just didn't want her next to Jamek.

"No, I'm just thinking," I said as Acem and Jamek laughed at what my sister had said I was surprised that it didn't bother me.

"Thinking about how you're going to tell me why some crazy Psycho Vampire chick tried to kill me!" She yelled in a panicked voice.

            "Undead." Was all I said.

            "What?"

"She's not a Vampire, she's undead." She looked out the window, probably recalling the memory.

"Thank you. I don't think I ever thanked you." She said the next second, I sighed falling under the pressure.

"No problem," I said with one hand on the wheel, I felt everyone's eyes on me. I just needed to get to Gram's and ask her about this necklace.

"What was she talking about when she asked if you brought "it?" I swore if I got asked that one more time, Acem leaned forward wanting to know too, I looked at Temple thanking her sarcastically with my eyes.

"Something," I muttered not really wanting to talk anymore. But I should've known that Temp wouldn't just leave it at that, she had the curious bone for both of us.

"Please, Gage! I just wanna know what to be scared of." I raked my fingers through my hair as I thought this through, the window was cracked just a few inches and I took the extra time to stare out the window watching the city life faded to country hick.

It was nice to see the scenery and have it actually be real, and that there wasn't a crazy Undead Dream Demon after your soul. Sighing I faced Temple meeting her worried blue eyes, Alice had been right we hadn't looked much alike but there were obvious features; our same stubborn jawline our eyes were the same big shape with the intense stare everyone commented on.

"She was talking about something that I took from her." As soon as the words came out of my mouth I was hit in the arm by Temple, I was slightly surprised at the silence from the back seat, it was hard to believe that Alaire wasn't interjecting.

"God, you're stupid! You TOOK something from a however-old Undead! No wonder... you must... have like some sort of stupid death wish! Do you know what that would do to mom? Dad? Me! And what about Alaire? She couldn't make it through high school without you, heaven only knows how YOU manage but-

"Shut up!" I yelled feeling overwhelmed by her constant raging lunatic ways, she sunk back in her seat realizing that she had gotten carried away.

"Uh, Gage you have to take a left like right here!" Acem told me pointing to the dirt road that I almost missed, I had to stop the car and back up in order to make the turn, it came out from nowhere and I was surprised I hadn't passed it completely.
