"I'm sorry." Guilt falls on his face. I've always liked his face. I've always liked him.
"You're months too late." I whispered dismissively, coldly... hurt.
His face wavers, thousands of emotions whirling around it, but none of them good. He looks at me, regret filling his eyes.
"I know."

10 months earlier...
Audrey's POV
Ah, school. My most favorite place in the world. Isn't school fun? I mean, with all the fun homework, infinite amount of test and exciting exams, how couldn't it be?
Good. My sarcasm still works. Maybe I can survive this year after all?
---------------
I take it back. I'll die before we reach Friday.
"Teacher, Peter and Jeff are fighting!"
"Peter, Jeff, stop it right now or I swear I'll throw both of you outside."
"It was his fault!" Peter points at Jeff.
"Why? I just called you a fag. Just stating a fact." Jeff reasons.
"Just.. Sit down! Both of you!"
I sigh.
I forgot to mention the people. Aren't they just lovely?
"I hope you die, you bastard!"
Charming, aren't they?
The students introduce themselves one by one. The new teacher tries to memorize their names. More arguments start every 5 minutes and the teacher gives up and goes out of the classroom.
What a lovely way to start a year.
----------
6 days later....
"Class, we have a new student." The teacher says.
"Please introduce yourself." The teacher says and sits down on her chair. I glance at the new student.
"Hello. I'm Austin B. Diagono. I hope we can be great friends!" He grins, his black hair slightly shadowing his face. Compared to the others, he was slightly short, but his looks made up for it.
Not bad...
Some of the students greeted him back. The teacher stands up.
"Now, we should start class! Austin, why don't you sit next to.." She looks around the classroom.
"Audrey." She points in my direction.
Oh god.
She leads him to the seat next to mine. He sits, and smiles at me.
"Hi. I'm Austin."
I raise a brow. "Stating the obvious, are we?"
He laughs. Oh my. That's a pretty nice laugh right there.
"Well aren't you a ray of sunshine."
"I know right?" I said, swinging my hair back.
He laughs again. I should really make him laugh more often in the future.
"Ok, class, as you all know, I will have to assign you 3 projects for every quarter because.. that's what teachers do." she shrugs. "So since I don't really want to think of three projects, I will be making you do one very important project that will be 1/3 of your grade for the whole quarter."
Groans erupt from the students.
"You'll be working in pairs."
More groaning from the students. I do the same.
"And your partner will be the person next to you."
I stop in the middle of groaning.
What?
I turn to the chair next to me. Austin looks at me, wiggling his eyebrows.
"Hi, partner."
