Audrey's POV
"What should we do for our project, partner? Where are you going, partner?" Austin says, following my steps.
"Somewhere you aren't." I say.
"Why is that, partner? Is there a problem, partner?"
"I have a name you know." I remind him.
"I know."
"Then why not use it? That is why we were born with them."
"I like using the term partner, partner. And seeing your eye twitch every time I say partner is fun, partner."
My left eye twitches again. He grins. I would've punched that grin off his face if it wasn't so damn cute.
Wait, what?
Did I just say cute? No, my words must've mixed up! Cute? He isn't cute. He's annoying! He's abominable! He's...
Handsome? My inner voice suggested.
Shut up!
I look behind me.
"Where are we going, partner?"
"Where I'm going is somewhere that doesn't have a you in it."
"And where is that, partne-"
I slam the door to the girl's bathroom on his face. I heard a loud thud and a groan. A triumphant grin enters my face.
"Dont worry, partner! I'll wait for you!"
My triumphant grin decided it didn't want to stay anymore and went to the exit. A frown was kind enough to take its place.
"Don't frown, partner. It will give you early wrinkles!" Said a voice behind the door.
What the fuck? Can he see me?
"Can't see you, partner! It was just my partner senses tingling!" He said, reading my mind and scaring the shit out of me.
"Who is that shouting behind the door? And who is he calling partner?" One of the girls murmurs to her friend. I sigh. It's already recess. Why is he still following me?! Why did I have to end up with him?!
Oh please. Even if it was someone else, you'd still be annoyed.
No. I'd rather be with someone else than him!
Oh yeah? Who would you rather be with than him?
There are lots of people I'd rather be with than him! There's...umm..
Just give in. You know I'm right~.
Shut up!
Yeah, that's what you always say when I'm right.
Shut it!
Oh, so 'up' turned into 'it' huh? You're vocabulary's expanding a lot, I see.
I groan. Why am I stuck with you?
Why am I stuck with you?
I let out a very agonized noise.
I stayed in the girl's bathroom for a few more minutes. My stomach started to protest.
Feed me, dammit!
Oh great. My stomach talks too.
I open the door slightly and take a peek outside. And lo and behold, he was still there, leaning on the wall, waiting for me...
Sweet, isn't he? My inner voice says.
Like a piece of cake? My stomach asks hopefully.
Can we eat him?
In a sense... Inner voice says mischeviously.
Oh my god, shut up!
Then feed me, you idiot! Stomach says.
Fine.
I open the door wider and go outside. He turns at the sound and looks. He sees me and grins.
"Should we go to the cafeteria, partner?"
I open my mouth to protest. My stomach rumbles threateningly. I close my mouth again.
"You go first, partner."
"Why? Because chivalry isn't dead?" I roll my eyes.
"No, because I'm still new here and I don't know where it is. Of course chivalry is dead!"
A weird feeling crosses over me. Finally, someone who agrees with me!
"OK, let's go!" I lead him to the cafeteria.
------------
My stomach makes a tortured sound.
Dammit, I forgot my wallet.
"Something wrong, partner?" Austin looks over at me, chewing on his sandwich.
"Why does he keep calling you partner?" Nick asks.
"Look at her eyes." Austin says. Nick looks at me.
"Something wrong, partner?" He asks again. My left eye twitches. They both laugh. Austin chokes on his sandwich. It was my turn to laugh.
"Something wrong, partner?" I mimick his voice, lowering my voice an octave.
"But seriously, what's the problem, Audrey?" Nick asks.
"I forgot my wallet."
Austin stops choking. He looks at me.
"I can pay. Order whatever you want, partner!"
My stomach gurgles praisingly. A dark glint passes my eyes.
"Anything?"
