BANDAID ft. DaeNa

It was in a small playground near my house. A bright, sunny afternoon. Kids of different ages are playing. I was five. I am so engrossed digging in the sandbox for my little car that I buried. A game I love doing every time it's my day to go out and play. I can play well on my own. But fate decided, not anymore starting that day. I was surprised to suddenly hear crying while I'm busy with my digging business. I looked over, a five year old girl have scraped her knee. Poor thing. I went to her right away. Mama says that being nice to a lady earns you a gift from God every time. And I'm determined to have as many gifts as I could.

'Are you okay?' I asked

She looked up to me with tear stained cheeks and puffy eyes

Boy. What a cute lady.

'I got boo boo!' she sniffles

'Yea. Sorry about that. Hmmm' I put my thumb and index finger under my chin, trying to find a way to cheer this lady up and for me to have my gift. As I think, her tiny hand went up her forehead trying to wipe the beads of sweat that appeared.

DING!

Bright idea moment!

'Do you... Wanna go to a convenience store and eat ice cream with me?' I asked hesitantly. She looked at me in the eyes and said 'Yes!'. Her eyes are now shining. A smile also creeped on her face. I offered my hand for her to take and she grabbed it as soon as she can. We held hands on our way to the convenience store. I didn't know until that day that 'ice cream' is some kind of spell to cheer a lady up. I can hear my Mama tell me, 'Daehyun ah~ What a good boy you are!' I smiled to myself as she skips while walking with me.

'We're almost there!' she pointed at the convenience store and smiled at me, excitement written all over her face--taking me away from my thoughts.

'Yea!' I replied

We both pushed the door open and let ourselves in.

'Hi kids!' A staff greeted us, well. Trying to match our height.

We waved at her in return.

'What do you want to get?'

'Ice cream for me and this lady please.'

'Awww. Sure!'

We stared as the lady in the counter fill two cones with ice cream. Those swirls are so hypnotizing for kids our age, I tell you. We waited in anticipation to have that icy treat in our hands.

'Here you go~' the lady staff said as she hands us our order. She's been smiling ever since we appeared at the store. So nice. I paid and we sat on one of the tables outside.

'Thank you so much! You're so kind.' the little lady with me said, swinging her little legs while enjoying her ice cream

'No problem! Do you feel better now? Don't worry. It'll heal.' I said as I ate my ice cream, smiling at her.

'Yea!'

After eating ice cream, we went back to the playground. By now, we already know each other's names. Hers is Buena. How unique! After 20 minutes, Mama already came to fetch me up. I told Mama about her knee and Mama went to her to stick a bandaid on it.

'Daehyun ah~'

'Yes Mama?'

'One last touch and her wound would start healing!'

I went to my new friend and gently blew on her knee. Mama said, that's what really make wounds heal. Quite magical, right? She smiled and her Mama came to fetch her too. Our Moms became instant friends, thanks to her tiny incident perhaps. Before she left, I earned a kiss on the cheek and she whispered, 'You're my secret thing.' followed by a cute giggle and went off.

'Then you played together ever since, Daddy?'

'Yes honey, we did.' I answered, our now 5 year old daughter and kissed the top of her head

'Right sweetheart?' I asked my wife who's busy preparing our dinner at the kitchen

'Yes sweetheart!' She answered

'Mommy! What does it mean when you called Daddy your secret thing?' Our baby asked her Mom who's now placing our food on the table

'Ah~ It means Daddy is my special person.' She said with a sweet smile

'That's your Mommy's way to tell that she has a crush on Daddy, honey.'

I confessed with a smug look on my face. Made our daughter and me laugh.

'Yea yea. Now enough with the throwback! Time for dinner!' she told us, sticking her tongue out

'I hope I can find my secret thing too Mommy.'

'Honey! Of course you will and he'll be the one looking for you. He won't stop until he finds you.' my wife smiled at our Daeana (read as Deyana) and pinched her cheeks. Life's good.
