Every bruise, every scratch— all of the fresh markings on her dainty hands symbolized the completion of the rigorous task behind her.
She washed the horses, fed the chickens, cleaned the dishes, cycled through the laundry, mopped, scrubbed, dusted— the house was practically sparkling.
Marinette sighed. It had been eight hours since she woke up in this world. She was beginning to feel stuck. But, if everything was going by the book, her Fairy-god Mother would appear any second now.
"Where are you, Fairy-god Mother?" Marinette deeply inhaled, "Any second now! Come on!"
"Oh honey. You're a wreck."
The blunette pivoted, only to see her best friend, Alya, clothed in a deep blue ball gown. A simple tiara crowned her scalp and a wand lay sparkling in her grasp.
"Alya!" Marinette's lips turned upward into a bright smile. "I'm so happy to see you!"
Alya cocked her head in confusion, though a light grin tugged at the edges of her mouth. "I'm here to make sure you don't screw
everything up, girlie. Let's get you something bangin' to wear to the Prince's ball.""The ball?" Marinette spoke, almost forgetting the objective. "Oh! Yes! The ball!" She soon corrected herself as a deep blush coated her cheeks.
Alya chuckled. Then, with a flick of her wrist, a flood of sparkles twirled around the blunette. Starting at her chest and ending at her feet, the wave of pink glitter left Marinette dressed in a stunning red ball gown. The dress was plump near the bottom, but it thinned out as it reached her waist and crested into a heart at her chest. Her onyx blue hair was braided to the side; the length of the locks were supported by her bare shoulders.
"Now that's what I call stunning." Alya bit on her lip as she checked out her masterpiece. "That'll definitely d0. But you have to remember—"
"That it all disappears at midnight, I know." Marinette interrupted, still admiring her gown.
Alya raised an eyebrow in confusion. "How did you— never mind." She shook her head, trying to withhold a laugh.
"Thanks Aly— Fairy-God Mother!" Marinette gleamed. The blunette then took off, running towards the castle. Judging by the distance, it was only about two or so miles away from the cottage in which she resided.
"What a peculiar girl." Alya murdered while scratching the back of her neck.
It was a brisk jog— the air outside was cool to the touch and the sun has already said goodnight. Being a part-time superhero, the European didn't even break a sweat.
She arrived at the castle around eight o'clock. Her heart raced like a galloping horse as she approached the main gates; from what she could tell, the castle was absolutely gorgeous. It was exactly like the one from the story— Marinette's eyes sparkled as they admired every single feature that the building possessed.
Eventually, the blunette— feeling as if she needed to sneak in— followed closely behind a couple until they reached the guards positioned outside of the main double doors.
