It had been three days since the night of the Prince's Ball, and Adrien had yet to come and find her. Her step sisters and mother didn't hesitate to scald her, however— Marinette now spent her days locked within her room.
"Mariella?" A gentle voice called out.
Marinette furrowed her brows in confusion. "Who's talking?" She whispered back as her eyes scanned the room.
"Down here!" Another voice rang.
The European gazed down. Her cerulean orbs met with three small figures, all mouse-sized: a black cat, a ladybug, and a fox.
"Tikki? And er— friends?" Marinette gasped, her expression softening.
Tikki nodded. "Yep! This is Plagg and Trixx— we're gonna help you get out of here. The prince is surveying all of the women in town today— you need to show your face once he arrives!" The ladybug winked while allowing a giant smile to spread across her cheeks. "Plagg?"
The black cat acknowledged Tikki's signal; he squirmed his way through the moderately sized crack in the wooden floorboards.
Marinette crooked her head, puzzled. "Where's he going?" She asked the other two creatures.
"He's going to get the keys, he'll be back just in time to unlock your bedroom door." Trixx, the tiny fox, mumbled smugly.
As if of cue, the wooden door clicked open, revealing the onyx kitten on the other side. "I deserve so much cheese for this," Plagg grumbled in annoyance, but his mouth twitched upwards into a grin.
"Plagg!" Marinette gleamed. "This is all so wild, thank you guys so much." The European cupped her hands, motioning for the three to climb aboard. After scooping the trio up, Marinette hustled out of the room and down the attic stairs.
Silently, the young woman peeked her head around the corner of the staircase wall, only to see her step-sisters crowding around the front door.
"Prince Adrien is here?!" Chloé wailed, her voice nervous yet ecstatic. "Where?!" She added.
"Hey, no fair, don't think you're going to be the first to see him just because you're the oldest!" Sabrina whined.
"Yes, Prince Adrien has been searching for the maroon maiden, whom had captured his heart last night at the ball." The knight stated in a gruff voice. "Please, all young women are to try on the glass slipper, of which the mysterious lady wore." He gestured towards a glass slipper; it was stationed on the purple pillow, carried by a young boy.
Chloé's grin widened. "My slipper! You've found it!" Her lie was perfectly executed; her voice was convincing as it did not waver.
Sabrina narrowed her emerald eyes, but shrugged off her sister's statement.
From behind the staircase, Marinette glared at the duo surrounding the knight. "That lying scumbag," she whispered under her breath. "I want to slap her so badly right now."
