I hear the door of the Tardis open slowly, and River's voice floats up from the control room.
"So I've still got to write that book, then." The conversation fades in and out of focus. They're gone. I'll never see them again. I never dreamed I'd even meet them, but still. . .
"Travel with me then- Argh!" The Doctor starts to say to River. The yelling wasn't in Angels Take Manhattan. . . He's changing again isn't he. . .
I dash across the hall and down the stairs, bursting into the console room. River is standing off to the side looking shocked as she stares at her husband surrounded by the golden energy.
"Stop it! Fight it! You can't leave. . ." Tears start to fill her eyes. I walk up beside her and put a hand on her shoulder. She's just lost everyone who mattered to her. And it's partially my fault.
"Aargh!" The Doctor screams one last time as the energy leaves him and he's left in form fourteen again. River stares at the floor. The Doctor turns away from her and starts to fly the Tardis back to Stormcage to drop off River.
"Ouch!" The Doctor yells. River had slapped him upon exiting the Tardis.
"I know this isn't your fault, but I can't believe you just changed again, and now you're leaving me here!" He just blinks and returns to the console, flipping switches and pressing buttons. I see a single tear fall onto his cheek, and the doors close. He starts to pull the lever that will set us in motion, but I walk up and slap him before he can touch it.
"What was that for?!"
"River!" I yell, and run back up to my room.
I collapse on my bed, shaking with silent sobs. Why am I crying? I think. Because I don't really know. There's nothing for me to be sad about. The Doctor just lost River, Amy, and Rory, and I'm up here crying. He's probably down there, being his usual, perky, unconcerned self. Stop it! I tell myself. he's devastated, you've seen it! You're being an idiot!
I sigh and wipe my face on the blanket. I should go down to the console room, comfort him. Do something. But I don't feel particularly inclined sit there with a stupid look on my face while he brushes me off, claiming that he's fine. But Still...
"No!" I say out loud. I hear a crash from the hall. Undoubtedly, he was standing in the hall, debating whether or not he should come in, and I startled the clumsy thing and he knocked over the little table out there. "Oh, you stupid, stupid man." I whisper, walking to the door. I pull it open and look out. Sure enough, he sitting on the floor with a splintered table and a shattered vase. I roll my eyes.
"Oh, um, Grace. . . Hello! Fancy seeing you here. . . I was just. . . Um-"
"Pacing outside my door like a caged animal? Yeah, I know."
"Heh. . . Yeah, sorry." I roll my eyes again.
"Come on," I offer him my hand, "Up you get." He reaches up to take my hand, but I jerk back when I see its covered in blood. He looks when he sees my reaction, but he just blinks.
"It's fine. Probably cut myself on this vase. . . Blasted thing." He laughs and I can't help but do the same.
"Lets get that cleaned up," I say, reaching for his other hand. He lets me take it and I lead him into my room.
"Ah!" I wince in sympathy as he gasps.
"I know, but I have to get this glass out. Now hold still." I grab his hand tightly and start working again. He's sitting in the edge of the tub in the small bathroom connected to my room. He looks over at me, sitting next to him.
