"Hurry up Dakota! You're gonna be late!" Pleaded Dakota's mother.

"I'll be done in a sec Mom!" Replied Dakota while holding up a long sleeve shirt to her torso; deciding whether to wear this or her favorite hoodie, but she wears it all the time. "I guess I'll wear something different." She says to herself. She slips on the shirt over the undershirt she already has on and gently pulls her long brown hair out of the collar, letting it fall on her shoulders. She stares at her petite figure in the mirror for a moment, admiring her outfit.

She runs down the stairs and into the kitchen and sees her mother buttering a slice of toast. Her mother there looks up at her and gives a slight smile. "Good, for a second I thought you fell in the toilet." She says with a chuckle. Dakota laughs and leans on the counter, taking an apple from the fruit bowl next to her. "So are you going to be home for dinner tonight?" Dakota asked. Her mother sighs, "I'm afraid not, the office is having a big meeting and I have to be there tonight. Here." She hands Dakota the slice of toast and hurries out of the kitchen.

Dakota frowns. She rarely ever gets to see mom anymore, now that she got this new job. Everything used to seem so much more simple. She remembers how she got to go to the sunday market with her mother almost every weekend; how they used to be so close. Suddenly loud thudding came down the stairs, ripping Dakota from her thoughts. Her younger brother, William, came trotting in. "Hi Butthead!" He chirps with a wide grin. He grabs out the corn flakes and milk, making himself a bowl for cereal. He pours in the milk first and then the cereal, making Dakota cringe. William has always been a weird kid; always did everything a bit different. Usually when it came to his food. He would eat his pizza from crust to tip, ketchup in his Mac n' Cheese, take the bread off of breaded chicken, etc.

There's a honk outside. Dakota jumps up and grabs her bag "Will, tell Mom I said bye!" She yells while running out the door. Maralyn is parked by the sidewalk with her window rolled down. "Took you long enough! We were waiting here forever." She complains. Dakota shrugs, and slides into the back seat. Laurissa turns slightly in the front seat to face Dakota. "Did you finish your essay yet? For History?" She asked. Dakota nods. "What about you guys?"

"Yep, but I almost forgot about it, so I was up until 1." Replied Maralyn as she starts up the car. "Alright let's go."
