Chapter 4: Show me your Moves

Malcolm's P.O.V.

It's January 29th, two semesters in this school year and we still don't have a fourth teammate, the rest have just been temporary. I finished my lunch and headed outside to think, who could be our fourth teammate?

"Excuse me." This buff looking Inkling I've never seen before came up to me. "I'm looking for this squid named David. You know him by any chance?"

"Nah sorry." Upon closer inspection I noticed he was carrying an Inkbrush case. Hm I guess we could use another fast member. "You got a team?"

"I'm trying to join his actually, can't find him anywhere in this big place." Damn, I think I did see him before. Should I lie and say he dropped out or should I really try to force him to join us? Hm option B is looking better.

"Ya know his team really isn't all that, we've got much better skills and we accept A+ ranks or lower."

"Um I'm not sure. I'll consider it, but in the meantime I gotta find David." He sure seemed in a hurry, the way he rolled off with his brush. This guy must be important to him but that's not my business. I heard footsteps from behind me, I looked back and saw Carter.

"Hey, wassup."

"Just haven't been getting along with my teams lately. I've joined a bunch of different ones but there just isn't much of a stable connection with us if you catch my drift." Not really.

"That's a darn shame, HEY wanna join us??" Yeah seems kind of rude to ask now but we need someone, and Carter is pretty good. He needs a good team and we need a fourth teammate, win win.

"I'm not sure, it's just-"

"I get it, take alllll the time you need." Man why can't he decide now?

"There is something I wanna know, how does your team operate?"

"Hm? I could show you. They were just in a silly little turf war." I shouldn't talk, I play those if I'm tired of Rank. "But I could call them up for a Rank battle."

Minutes later, Kiera and Skye showed up just in time and the three of us together made Carter... yawn? "What gives? Not impressed?"

"Malcolm, you guy's just look like every other squad. Just, with a really weird comp."

"We're ranked sorta high on the leaderboards."

"What place?"

"Umm I think maybe 121st?" Kiera told him as he just stood with an 'are you serious' kind of look

"Look do you wanna see our skills or not? Maybe that'll change your mind about us."

We entered a Tower Control match on Moray Towers and proceed like we always do.

"Kiera, what's the team looking like?"

"Two Splattershots, an E-Liter 4K Scope, and an N-Zap."

"What's the abilities?" I say with a calm but commanding voice.

"E-Liter: Ink Saver Main, Quick Respawn, Bomb Defense Up. First Splattershot: Full Swim Speed Up set. Second Splattershot: Swim Speed Up, Special Power Up, Ink Saver Sub."

"N-Zap?"

"Special Charge Up, Run Speed Up, and Bomb Defense Up."

"Got it. Alright... Kiera stay up here, Skye go straight up the wall and harass the charger like always, I'm going to the left to back you up."

"Carter you leave them to us."

"Wait what?? I can't just not help."

"Trust me, the captain knows what he's doing. Just stay put a little higher up and leave this to us. Oh and remember to move every so often or they'll kick you out."
