It was the start of the summer term. I was kinda annoyed with my school that they wouldn't let the boys wear grey shorts since the weather was quite warm. I hated the tie of the school. It looked like mud but worse. Much worse. The girls consider themselves lucky. They can wear a checked summer dress with the colours of our school and sure enough, I spotted hundreds of girls wearing dresses while the guys were sweating out over the trousers on this particular day.

I'm not a bad student. I did get sent home once but that was purely by accident. I had no idea that they didn't accept a football strip rucksack for school. They banned them due to fights. I guess the staff don't like football.

I remember that it was during break one day when myself and four of my buddies were walking out of the upper school loos that I first laid my eyes on Sarah. She had just joined the school the previous term and Jake, one of my closet friends described her as the 'Quiet' one. I think quiet girls are beautiful but no-one seemed to agree with me.

She was wearing the school summer dress and her glasses. She seemed to be focused on one thing. And that was trying to dodge out of the way of others. I knew that Jake for a fact had made a joke about her shyness in front of half of the year. So, I assumed that she was still upset over that.

I took the brave decision to abandon my mates and prayed that they didn't make a joke out of this to everyone and chased after her.

Sarah could tell that I was after her. She started to quicken her steps just to try and avoid me altogether.

This was my chance to say something, I took a deep breath, 'Sarah, I need to talk you.'

She didn't stop to face me or reply. She really didn't want to talk to me and the way that she ran and acted swift was one of panic and sorrow.

Suddenly, the bell rang loud and clear through the long school corridors. I was standing next to it at the time and I literally jumped out of my skin.

I was faced with a choice. Forget about her and go to class? Or try to catch-up with her?

At that moment, something clicked in my head. If I forgot about her, then she would always stay away and never talk. I couldn't let this girl slip away from me so easily because in my eyes, she was incredibly pretty.

Taking a deep breath, I carried on after her. I passed loud shouting students and ignored the cries from Jake. Well, I could tell it was Jake as the cries came from an American accent. Jake is from Orlando in Florida and has tanned skin and broad shoulders.

When I reached the front of the school, I spotted in the distance a girl entering the park. The park is opposite our school and it's a great hangout for all of the students here. It's got everything from benches and climbing walls to swings and a trampoline. It is also covered with pretty flowers and a huge oak tree. That was every local kid's version of paradise.

I took another breath. I didn't want to set a bad example to the younger students by playing truant but then again, I wanted to get to know Sarah since from the outside, she was just a shy, pale looking girl with beautiful eyes.

I raced out of the gates and ducked down into the park. By then, I was drenched in sweat. It was running down the back of my neck causing an uncomfortable feeling of disgusting humid heat where I didn't need it most.

It took me ten minutes to search around until I spotted a school bag by the side of a bush in the shade. From my memory, I knew that I had found her.

Sometimes, if events like this do happen, then things could get worse if someone intervened. But since I was here, there was no turning back.

I peeped in and I saw Sarah with her nose in a book. Her blazer lay on the ground beside her.
