Chapter 10

Adelaide and Zahn spent the entire night in each other's arms. They never slept, instead, savored every moment they had to be together. Zahn schooled her in the erotic arts, and she was a fast learner. They were sated and happy when they arrived at Adelaide's home in the late afternoon.

Adelaide took Talla aside, hugging her in thanks for letting them have their time together.

"You're welcome miss. It's the least I could do to try to make up for what I did."

"We will have no more talk about it. Just promise, if you are ever in that situation again, you will come to me instead of trying to kill me."

Talla laughed, even though she was on the verge of tears. Her guilt would never subside.

Her parents were shocked at their unannounced arrival and her mother knew something was wrong.

"Not here." Zahn said curtly. "Somewhere private...safe. Do you have such a place?"

"The Fairy Kingdom. Outside magic is unable to penetrate their sanctuary." Adelaide's father said.

"Perfect. Let's go."

Zahn, Adelaide and her parents walked quickly to the Fairy Kingdom. They requested entrance which was immediately granted.

Zahn asked the Fairy King to listen in on the conversation. Now that Zahn knew about the safety the Kingdom provided, he was going to ask for Adelaide's sanctuary until the situation could be resolved.

"Your husband is trying to kill you?" her father asked, stunned. "And you are in love with my daughter?"

"Yes to both sir. I believe my brother to be under some type of mind control. This is not in his behavior...it is not typical. He is actually quite mellow and meek. I had noticed a change in him but it was gradual. I just thought maybe he was growing and changing as we all do when we age and learn."

"And my daughter?"

"Well, sir, I fell in love with her and she has fallen in love with me. I hope to have her marriage to my bother annulled and marry her myself. Or, if worse comes to worse, if I have to kill my brother in order to save Adelaide, I will marry her then...when it's done."

"Adelaide?" her father said.

"Yes Father. I am in love with him. Zahn is who I want."

Zahn and Adelaide relayed all the details of their trip...all the near misses and close calls. Her father seethed with rage when they spoke of Talla's treachery, but were able to talk him down from snapping her neck. Adelaide felt confident that they would not have to worry about her going forward.

"What do we do about your brother Zahn?" Allara asked.

"Well my hope is to seek the King's permission for Adelaide to stay here in the kingdom. If magic can't penetrate their world, then she would be safe from him until I can find him and stop him."

The Fairy King flew to Zahn's ear. After a few moments, Zahn spoke. "Thank you, Your Majesty."

Adelaide was not thrilled about being secluded into the Fairy Kingdom. "I will not stay here."

"Adelaide..." Zahn started.

"Zahn. I will not hide. I will fight for my life and fight for your love. Our love. I will stand next to you, not hide and cower away from the first sign of danger. We are stronger together...more powerful together."

"Adelaide...I think Zahn is right. You should stay here." Karlen said sternly.

"Zahn may not be my husband on paper, but he is my husband in every other way. I will fight for my right to love whom I choose. You did just that Father and in turn, a curse was placed upon me in order to pay for your sins. What I have done, what I have chosen may not be considered proper, but it is real. Just as your love for my mother. Do you deny me the same right? To live my life as I choose...to love whom I choose?"
