Zahn and Adelaide had almost of month of calm and serene happiness. They spent the days together, exploring her home, eating meals and laughing. They spent their nights exploring each other. They had almost forgotten that they were awaiting her husband to come finish killing her and that Zahn may have to kill his own brother in order to save her. They simply enjoyed their time together, knowing in the back of their mind it could soon end.

Her parents said nothing about Zahn sleeping in her room. She was a married woman after all...she wasn't sleeping with her husband but that was just a technicality. They got a taste of what married life would be like...and they each prayed in their own way that they would find that happiness together one day.

Talla strode in one morning. Adelaide had slept in and she went to check on her.

"Miss? You alright?" she whispered.

"Hmmm?" Adelaide said sleepily.

"It's late miss. Are you feeling well?"

"What time is it Talla?"

"Eleven miss."

"Eleven?" Adelaide said, bolting up.

The moment she did, a wave of nausea ran over her. She motioned for a bucket and Talla had placed it under her mouth just in time. Adelaide collapsed back onto the pillows, exhausted.

"I must have the flu." Adelaide said weakly.

Talla had a smile on her face. "Perhaps. It may be with you for some time though."

"It will? You have seen this type of flu before?"

"Oh yes miss. You should be over it in about 8 months or so." Talla said, giggling.

"Eight months? Why so long? Why...that's as long as it takes to have a..."

Adelaide was stunned into silence. Eight months. Nausea, tiredness. Oh. Dear.

Adelaide fell back on the bed, gently placing her hand on her stomach. Could it be?

"What am I going to do?" she asked urgently.

"Well, I believe you will be having a baby."

"Talla! I can't have a baby. I can't have Zahn's baby...I'm married to his brother and he is trying to kill me. This is all wrong."

Talla walked over to her mistress, gently kneeling before her. "Miss. All will be well. This will all work out. You have a strong man who loves you. You will be having this baby together. Don't you worry about that."

"We are not to tell him. Not yet...is that clear? We will keep this quiet for as long as we can. I don't want to add this to the list of burdens Zahn has to bear at my expense. I have already caused him more trouble than he ever hoped for."

"Are you sure? This isn't something you can hide...not for long anyways." Talla said rationally.

"Yes. For now. I will tell him when I can no longer hide it. But for now...let him live in ignorance."

"Very well miss. As you wish."

Talla felt wrong, hiding the truth of her mistress's pregnancy. But, she would do as she was told. She just hoped it was the right decision. She hadn't been lucky as of late in making the right choices.

As expected, the attack from Aadin was unexpected. They were sitting down to their evening meal, quite enjoying themselves. Adelaide's parents loved Zahn and they especially loved the way he loved their daughter. Adelaide's father offered whatever help that would be needed in order to get Adelaide's marriage annulled so she and Zahn could wed. Hiding out at her parent's house had been as near to perfect as either one of them could ever imagined. They helped out around the house with the chores during the day and made love into the night every night. They had developed such a lovely routine that Adelaide knew it would not last. It could not last. It was too perfect.
