jealousy

You couldn't help it.

You couldn't help being close friends with someone, someone who you knew would get your sense of humor and understand you.

Of course, you had a boyfriend and like most every boyfriend- they got jealous here and there.

"Stan, I seriously don't get you." You said, laughing at one of his stupid jokes about a bird that he had seen earlier today.

"Oh, but you do get me, ____."

You continued to laugh as you walked up to the rock where all the other Losers were sitting at, drying off from being in the Quarry earlier before you both had arrived.

Stan took his seat next to Eddie while Richie whistled in your direction. You turned towards him, raising an eyebrow.

"Come here, babe." He said, putting out his arms as he beckoned for you to come and get close to him.

You walked over, sitting down next to him as he pulled you into his lap, his arms wrapped loosely around your waist as he snuggled his head into the crook of your neck.

"So, what were you two doing that took you both so long to get here?" Beverly asked you both.

Stan answered for the two of you.

"We went out birdwatching because I needed help finding this bird. I just needed to see a glimpse of it." Stan explained. "Then, we came on down here."

You nodded, feeling Richie's arms wrap themselves tighter around you. You didn't make a sound but slid down slightly, placing your head on his chest.

"God, do you have to do that here?" Eddie asked, shooting a disgusted look in yours and Richie's direction.

Stan rolled his eyes as Richie looked up towards him. "You got a problem with me loving my girlfriend, wheezy?" Richie asked him.

Eddie shook his head, watching you as you continued to stare up into the sky absentmindedly.

"Hey, _____." Stan suddenly piped up.

You looked towards him.

"Two vultures were in the desert eating a clown. What does the first vulture ask the second vulture?"

You shrugged, staring at him while all the other Losers were quiet as they all stared at Richie's reaction.

"'Does this taste funny to you?'" Stan said, bursting out laughing as you giggled softly into your palm of your hand.

"Stan, what the hell!" You exclaimed, trying to stop laughing. You had been best friends with Stan ever since first grade and nothing would ever change that.

"Hey, Stan." Richie piped up.

Everyone was quiet as they stared over at him.

They all knew how jealous Richie could get- especially if it had to deal with you. Not just an arcade game.

"It's a miracle you aren't gassing the birds you catch."

Everyone grew quiet as your face became suddenly red with embarrassment.

You shoved yourself out of Richie's lap, rushing off in the opposite direction while Stan stood up, walking down towards the water as everyone shook their head.

"Damn it, Richie." Beverly said, getting up and going after Stan.

-
You sat up against a tree, embarrassment still evidently in your face as you heard footsteps approaching.

You didn't even have to look up to know who it was.

"Richie, why the hell would you say that?" You asked him, a crack being apparent in your voice as you tried to hide it.

"I didn't mean it- I'm just jealous cause you're always hanging out with him! It's constant!" He exclaimed, watching as you stood up.

He waited for you to do something.

You didn't move for a very long time, just standing there and staring at him, hands limply laying by your sides.

You finally came forward, pushing your lips to his and pulling him closer to you.

He was caught off guard.

When you let go, you put your arms around him and placed your head on his chest.

"I know you didn't mean it, Richie. But please stop being so jealous all the time. I'm good friends with Stan and I love you. Nothing will ever change that."

Richie nodded, tightening his grip on you while you smiled.
