Mistakes Of The Past

Just Breath

  Back at the house Ruby was still in utter shock of what she had found out . She leaned against the wall and slowly slid down it still blinking rapidly trying to will herself not to cry . She felt almost sick to her stomach , like a strange tightening feeling in her chest . She slid down the wall pulling her legs up close to her chest and resting her arms on top of her legs . She rested her head on her arms and started to sob quietly into her arms . 

  It felt like everything she had ever known was a lie . How could Qrow be her father ? She had always known Qrow as her crazy drunk uncle and mentor . Even though he had looked after her for a good part of her childhood she had never had any suspicion that Qrow was her father . Why would she ? There was no reason for her to until now , after he had let loose a fifteen year old secret .

  Apparently her soft cries could be heard from upstairs as a few minutes after she started crying Yang bounded down the steps to find the source of noise . Needless to say she was a bit shocked when she found Ruby leaning against the wall with her head in her arms crying . She rushed over to her and leaned down next to her . '' Ruby what's wrong ? '' she asked .

  Ruby didn't respond and just continued to cry harder into her arms . Yang put her hands on Ruby's shoulders in an attempt to lift her head up and see what's wrong . Ruby just curled tighter up into a ball trying to avoid Yang and the rest of the heartbreak . A few moments later it was Blake who came down , looking for Yang but finding her team leader in distress . She also walked over to the two squatting down next to Yang as she as well tried to figure out why she was crying . 

'' Ruby , what's going on ? '' she asked and when Ruby didn't respond she turned to Yang . Yang shook her head as in she didn't know why her own sister was so distressed . They both leaned closer to Ruby trying to get her to lift her head up and tell them what was going on . 

  It was moments later when Weiss came down as she had figured out where the rest of her team was . She too was confused as to why Ruby was crying and tried to get Yang and Blake to tell her though they didn't know either so they couldn't really do that . She sat down on the floor as well attempting to get Ruby to tell them what in the world she was crying about . She almost never got this choked up about things , so it was just odd for her to be sitting here crying . 

  A little while later , as Ruby was still crying , Jaune had realized that the entirety of team RWBY was missing and had come down to find them . He sat down with the rest of the girls and tried to help them with their efforts of trying to find out why Ruby was crying . The four of them all surrounded Ruby trying in vain currently to try and figure out why she was crying and specifically why she wouldn't lift her head up and tell them . 

  A few moments later when they all realized that most of the group was missing Ren and Nora came down followed quickly by Oscar . The three sat down with the rest of the group surrounding Ruby trying to get her to tell them what in the world she was so upset over . She was crying harder now and pulled even tighter into herself , she didn't want to tell them what she had found out because she didn't know how they were going to react .

'' What's wrong with her ? '' Nora asked Blake .

'' I don't know , she won't tell us '' Blake replied . 

'' Come on sis , what's wrong ? '' Yang asked . That was what finally broke Ruby down . Yang wasn't her sister anymore and the mere thought , she started crying harder . The group seemed to notice this and Yang wondered what she had said to make Ruby set off crying even harder . 

'' What happened ? Ruby tell us what's wrong ? '' Weiss said .

  A few moments after that Ruby sat her head up still crying as she moved her legs to a criss cross position . She looked at Yang and she began to speak . '' Yang , you know how Qrow get's a little to drunk sometimes and he say's things that maybe he shouldn't say ? '' .

'' Oh gosh , what the hell did he say to you ? '' she said .

  Ruby looked down to her feet as she began to finish what she was saying . '' Well he was drinking and then he thought I was mom for a bit and he told me that ... '' she stopped herself short unable to finish at that moment . Tears were beginning to stream down her face again as she thought of the consequences of what she was about to say . 

'' Qrow explained that ... '' she paused not wanting to finish that sentence and reveal the truth , but knowing that now she had too . '' Qrow is my father '' she finally got out . She tried to blink the tears that were streaming down her face away , but to no avail . She placed her face in her hands and started to cry all over again .

  The entire group was in shock of the news Ruby had told them , they all stood there staring at her for a few moments before any of them were able to fully react to what they had been told . It was Yang who first reacted , standing up in anger with her foot tapping against the floor in fury . Blake's focus then shifted to Yang and wondering what the hell she was going to do . Weiss now seemed to be the only one really focused on Ruby as she wrapped her arms around Ruby so that Ruby was crying into her shoulder . The rest of the group tried to think of what they were supposed to do . Only Yang knew what she wanted to do in that moment . 

'' I'm gonna kill that sick bastard '' Yang shouts running off towards the door .

'' Yang '' Blake shouted hopping up and rushing after her . 

  Ruby stayed in Weiss's embrace crying into her shoulder as she tried to accept this strange truth .
