I walk into the white-roomed space, also known as a hospital. It smells like cleaner and I can sense the sadness as I watch a couple of people sobbing in the waiting room. My brother sits in the corner of the room, head in his phone."Jesse?" I call, walking towards his spot in the waiting room. His head shoots up and he shoves his phone in his pocket before running towards me and scooping me up in his arms.
"Jamie!" he muffles in to my hair, "Oh God, am I glad to see you!" he exclaims, swinging me around. I giggle as he puts me down and I brush my hair out of my face.
"I'm glad to see you too Jess." I smile uncontrollably, consuming every part of him.
"Ugh we really missed you," he sighs, looking towards my Mother's room.
"How is she doing?" I ask hopefully. He shakes his head, folding his arms.
"Not too good, James," He rubs the bridge of his nose making me place my hand on my chest, "She needs another surgery done. She's so fucking stubborn." he grits softly.
"Where do you think I got it from?" I smile wanly, tears swimming in my eyes.
"Yeah, yeah James," he chuckles, starting over to her room, "She'll be ecstatic once she finds out your here... she doesn't know yet." he grins. I smile a bit, and walk towards her room. I knock on the door softly, and she groans a bit, as her back is turned to the door, not allowing me to see her face.
"I told you Doc, I don't want the procedure. I don't need it." she mumbles.
"Yes you do," I smile, walking into the room as she turns over immediately.
"Bambini!" she exclaims, holding her limp arms up to hug me. I walk over to her side and pull her into a gentle hug as she squeezes me as hard as she can.
"I missed you Mommy." I sniffle into her shoulder.
"Oh, Baby, I missed you more," she says stroking my hair to sooth me, "These damn doctors keep harassing me." she jokes. I stifle a giggle and lean back to sit in the chair beside the hospital bed.
"Mommy you need to have this operation." I sigh, getting right to it.
"Jess," she sighs, running shaky hands down her face, as I ignore her mis-naming, "Maybe it's my time." her eyes water.
"Don't ever say that. You are a fighter and you've been fighting for so long, you can't give up now. This operation might be it." I sigh placing my hand on her forearm.
"Okay.... for you." she smiles weakly.
"No.... for us. And Jesse." my lip quivers as I hold back the dam behind my eyes.
"Hello Miss Montebella." Ryan smiles from the doorway. I blush softly, standing to greet him.
"Reynolds... how's it going?" I cock a brow. His perfect smile coats his face as he reaches out to shake my hand.
"You know how it is," he smirks, "but your mother is a real trooper." He sighs in a more serious tone, "has she agreed to the treatment?" He asks, looking down at his clipboard.
"Yeah she has." I smile, looking back at my mother who has fallen asleep again.
"You're a miracle worker," he says as his eyes smoulder me. I look away before anything can happen and take a step back.
"Thanks." I whisper under my breath.
"How are you?" He asks sincerely, stepping closer.
"I'm okay," I say, stepping around him to walk into the hallway. He follows behind me, closing the door behind him.
