"Janet, open up!" I exclaim, relentlessly wrapping on her door as I hear her footsteps quickly approach.
"What, what, what?!" she says in the same tone, unlocking and swinging open the door, "Damn, girl, what do you want?" she asks.
"I'm a fucking idiot, Janet," I sigh heavily, walking past her into her very nice, modern, house.
"Sure, come in," she gibes sarcastically, as I kick off my shoes, and walk over to the fridge to pull out a beer, "Can I get you anything?" She says in the same tone.
"Can I have this?" I ask, holding up the drink, not playing along with her sarcastic tone. Getting the gist, she drops it, and nods.
"Yeah, of course," she nods, furrowing her brows as I pop the top open with my key, "What happened? Did you and my brother get into it or something?" she asks hesitantly after a few seconds of watching me drink the beer.
"Pretty much," I sigh, feeling the liquid make its way into my stomach, "Jan, I'm such an idiot," I groan, rubbing my forehead as I place the beer on the counter, "I'm such a fucking idiot." I muffle with my hands covering my face.
"What happened?" she asks, leaning against the island as she studies me with her eyes.
"Lisa came over," I begin, and her brows shoot up with her eyes widening.
"Lisa Marie?" she gasps, "Michael's ex-wife?" she asks in shock, and I nod, rolling my eyes at the name.
"Yeah, that bitch," I grumble, shaking my head, "And she was kind of trying to get Michael to give her a second chance, not knowing that I was his girlfriend, I guess." I sigh, continuing to shake my head.
"And what happened? Did the fight have to do with her?" Janet asks hesitantly as I lean against the counter.
"I asked Michael if he'd ever consider getting back with her," I mumble after a few seconds and Janet shakes her head.
"No you didn't," she sighs, knowingly, and I lean my head back.
"Anyway, as you would guess, he didn't take that too well and then we got into it."
"What did he say?" she smirks, making me chuckle, not letting it reach my eyes.
"He started to turn it around on me and somehow he got to the point of him feeling like I don't listen to him, and then he was saying that I turn everything around on him, so he did it to me and said that I make things a bigger deal then they need to be," I drawl, and Janet nods, closing her eyes for a few seconds, "And then I said something... bad." I hesitate, and she looks at me with her eyes wide and brows furrowed.
"Jamie, what did you do..." she asks slowly, and I sigh rubbing the bridge of my nose.
"I told him that he married the wrong person," I sigh, and Janet's frown deepens.
"What's so wrong with that? I know that, he knows that, you know that. Everyone knows that! We all know that Michael married the wrong person, so what's his guff?" she scoffs, and I sigh, looking down at my hands.
"Michael had a hard time opening up to me about his past relationships," I begin, and Janet's face softens, "He told me about his ex's and all the wrong that they've done him, including Lisa. He blatantly told me that he knew he shouldn't have married Lisa, but he only did it because he thought that marriage would fix the part of him that was broken from all of his other past experiences."
"Oh, I get it," she nods slowly, as he phone starts to ring. She looks over to the coffee table in the living room, and she swats at the air, "I'll call back. It's probably not important."
"Anyways, I think I really hurt his feelings," I sigh, really trying to hold back tears now, "I didn't think that he would take it that hard, but his face, Janet," I sigh heavily, "His looked so sad."
"I mean, it's not that big of a deal that you asked if he might give Lisa another shot. I mean it is a stupid question to ask, but it is kind of fair. People get back with their ex's all the time." Janet says, trying to side with me and I shake my head.
"But not like that," I mumble, looking up to her, "Sorry, by the way. I know he's your brother. I shouldn't have come here, but I couldn't think of anywhere else to go." I say softly, tears brimming in my eyes.
"Awe, girl, it's okay," she sighs, holding her arms out as she walks up to me before pulling me into a tight hug.
"You are literally my only friend in LA that I can really talk to. It just sucks that your brother is also my boyfriend." I sniffle, a couple of tears running down my cheeks.
"It's okay girl, I can be a friend and a sister at the same time," she grins, pulling away, "And as much as I love my brother, it sounds like he was being a bit sensitive about this one." she whispers, as if he's here, and pulls a face.
"Janet," I laugh through my tears as I wipe them away.
"What? I'm serious," she smiles, walking over to the fridge to grab herself a beer as I take a swig of mine, "My brother is too sensitive sometimes. The whole world doesn't revolve around him and he doesn't need to pussy out when it's not necessary." She scoffs, making me laugh more.
"Janet, I know that this one is my fault. You don't have to side with me on this," I sniff, one last time, wiping my nose.
"I'm not siding. He just shouldn't have flipped out on you for asking a stupid question," she sighs, shrugging, before popping the cap and taking a sip, "Ahhh, I love a good beer." she says humorously, making me grin as her phone starts to ring again.
"You can get it," I sigh, knowing she was going to shrug it off again.
"What the fuck is it?!" she exclaims, furrowing her brows when she sees the caller ID, "Mike?" she asks, picking up the phone, and my sigh, rubbing the bridge of my nose.
I figured as much.
"Hey Janet, can we talk?"
