The heart wants what it wants.
Unfortunately, Alia had spent another night studying in front of the fire. She was tired; she had hardly slept in the past week. Between socialising, seeing Tom, going to classes and studying, she had had no time to do anything else! It was awful.
Now, she was sat on a sofa in the Room Of Requirement, a book in her hand. The title read, 'Les Misérables by Victor Hugo'. 'I'd like a drink. I desire to forget life. Life is a hideous invention of somebody I don't know. It doesn't last, and it's good for nothing. You break your neck simply living.' The page read. Alia smiled. She respected the character of Grantaire, in some strange way. Despite his unrequited love for Enjolras he was still a good person, just with a drinking problem.
"Something amusing you, my love?" Tom's voice rang through her ears. "Only a book character," she replied quietly. Tom stood up and came to sit with her. As soon as he sat, he noticed how tired she looked. "My dear, you must sleep! You are tired." He exclaimed, moving her head so it rested on his chest. She sighed, and gave into his request. And she was so tired.
Within a minute, Alia was asleep on Tom's chest. He smiled down at her, and picked up her book. He opened it randomly, and started to read in his head.
The old page read, 'And then, do you know, Monsieur Marius, I believe I was a little bit in love with you.' I could hardly believe it. I had only read one line of this book and it portrayed the feelings I had for Alia. I looked down at the sleeping girl in my arms. I pressed a kiss to her forehead. She smiled in her sleep. These actions were simple, yet I was so used to them. When I had met Alia, I had thought her ignorant but useful, and now I was in love with her. How rare our love was. How coincidental that I should love the one thing standing in the way of my goal. Whilst she was here I could not harm anyone in the way I wanted to. But I could not just get rid of her. It wasn't that simple. I loved her now, and she loved me. To get rid of her would be impossible. If I told her to leave she would be heartbroken, and I couldn't live with myself. Love was something I was so unaccustomed to, yet it was something I now craved.
T.M.RAround an hour later, Alia woke up. She found herself still in Tom's arms. Smiling, she sat up. "Good afternoon." Tom smiled. "How long was I asleep?" She asked, still groggy. "Around an hour, don't worry though our next class starts in fifteen minutes.
"Well then we should get going."
Alia and Tom walked through the halls of Hogwarts, hand in hand. It was weird, even though everyone knew they were together, they were still getting weird looks. And of course there were the girls that glared at Alia as she walked. It was no secret that many girls liked Tom, but he didn't care.
The two found their way to Defence Against The Dark Arts easily, with Tom only glaring at a few people. The professor welcomed them to her class, and they sat.
"Now, I will warn you. What we are learning about today is dangerous, but as seventh years I expect you to be able to handle it." Her words rang through the classroom. The students nodded. "Now, horcruxes."
Alia felt Tom stiffen beside her. Thinking he just didn't like this subject, she put a hand on his knee to comfort him. In reality, Tom was both intrigued and was feeling an emotion he could not quite give a name. He wasn't scared, but he was. What would he call that?
Luckily, he didn't seem to be the only one looking uncomfortable at their teacher's words. Students all around the room looked slightly dazed as their professor lectured them.
"Now, class. Please turn to page one hundred and twenty three in your books and read."
Both Tom and Alia happily abliged.
A horcrux, by definition, is an object in which a dark wizard or witch has hidden a fragment of his or her soul for the purpose of attaining immortality. Horcruxes can only be created after committing murder, the supreme act of evil. The process for the creation of a Horcrux involves a spell and a horrific act is performed after the murder has been committed. There are usually protective measures made to prevent a Horcrux from being stolen and destroyed, such as Counter- Charms and Jinxes. The Horcrux is considered the most terrible of all Dark Magic.
The class once again looked up, many horrified at what they had just read. They all knew about horcruxes, they had all heard of them. But now they knew the ugly truth.
A deadly, charming smile plastered itself onto Tom's face.
Word Count: 846.
A/N: Wow this sucked! Well, at least you guys got to see my love of books expressed through my girl Alia. The extract from Les Misérables is by Victor Hugo and the bit about horcruxes is from the Harry Potter wiki page (well, I added in ',by definition,'). I hope you are all having a lovely day.
