Chapter 8: Paris, France?

Today was a family day – just Ric, Jer, and me. Damon was going to spend some time with Stefan – “brother bonding” he called it. Caroline was going out with her mom, and Bonnie said she wanted some time to herself even though Jer insisted that she come along for lunch. She’d been feeling down after finding out that Lucy had sacrificed herself to bring Damon and her back, which is totally understandable. She didn’t want to do any service despite me insisting that we hold something. She said Lucy wasn’t one for that sort of thing and that she just needed some time to grieve.

                Damon interrupted my thoughts when he snuck up behind me and rested his head on my shoulder while wrapping his arms around my waist, “I’m going to miss you.”

                I turned in his arms and smiled, “I wouldn’t mind you tagging along.”

                He kissed me and smiled, “You need some family time, Elena. I do too. Plus, it’ll make the wait more exciting.”

                “You’re patient today,” I kissed his cheek.

                “What can I say? I’m in a patient mood,” he replied, smirking.

                I laughed softly, “Ric’s waiting outside, I should go. I love you.” I kissed his lips again before heading towards the staircase. I turned around once more to see him leaning against the bed post smiling at me. Just seeing him looking at me like that made me run back into his arms and kiss him hard, desperately.

                Damon chuckled, “I’ll see you soon, ‘Lena. I love you. Have fun today, okay?”

                I couldn’t stop smiling at him, “I will. See you later!”

                This time I made it all the way downstairs to where Ric and Jer were waiting.

                “For a second I thought you were going to bail,” Ric joked.

                “On family day, no way! I just needed to do a couple of things….” I trailed off.

                “It’s okay, I’m sure Damon appreciates the goodbye kisses,” Ric winked at me.

                My lips turned up in a smile and I shoved Alaric towards the door playfully.

                “So where are we going for lunch?” Jer asked from the front seat.

                “I was thinking we could hang out outside. I packed a picnic basket for us – sandwiches, sparkling apple juice, and cookies,” Alaric responded.

                “Wow Ric, you really went all out with this lunch! I’m looking forward to it,” I said enthusiastically.

                “Yeah well, Damon helped me put it together,” Ric said. Immediately after he said it, I saw him shut his eyes and shake his head, as if he had said something wrong.
