Eighteen years ago, the world saw the end of a brutal war. A war that nearly decimated a race. All because of one man's petite belief that all dragons were demons sent to destroy them.
Now this belief wasn't for no reason. As a child, while he was away at boarding school to take over his family's company, a rabid dragon escaped the prisons of The Dragon Cidel where it had been waiting to be put down. The first place it came to happened to be the child's family home. Killing his mother, father, and baby sister, before the Blood Dragon armies had managed to reach them.
He and his brother had been riddled with grieve. The child, the oldest, let his hatred fester and build till it was almost an obsession to kill off all the creatures possible of such evil, and in the process dragged his forgiving brother into the line of fire as well.
The army the two had made together had failed and the eldest's wife was killed by another dragon. His son and he fled into the wilds, chasing after his brother who had left days before on the orders of the eldest.
It was dead in winter when they fled. The wilds of Dragon Valley were riddled with hazards. The Shade Gaps, holes that popped up randomly and closed just as suddenly leading to the Shadow Realm were one such hazard. Another would be the sharp cliffs and sinkholes. Then there were the rabid dragons who had been released in the fight in hopes of guarding the Cidel against human invaders.
The man had only been trying to protect his son, Ezekiel, from the consequences of being born in such a bad time. But all good deeds have terrible consequences. As the Man and his son trekked on through the wilds, the man suddenly tripped. Dropping his son into a nearby snowdrift. His pistol fell to the ground just out of reach.
The man tried to rise, but as he did a Shadow Gap opened up beside him. As he rose to his knees a hand made entirely from shadows grabbed a hold of the man's ankle, dragging him into the Shadow Gap before he even had time to scream.
The boy, as if sensing his father's disappearance began to wail, crying until he could only whimper. The child's voice having been lost as night slowly shifted today.
Meanwhile, overhead a young dragon returning home from war paused in his strides across the sky. He faintly heard the sound of whimpering, far below him. He let himself drop to the ground below with a large thud. Find the young boy bundled in his blanket where his father had dropped him.
He gently picked the child up in his forearms, warming his scale in an attempt to bring the child's color back as he brought him close to his chest.
"Kolos los hin bormah, mal gein?" He asked in dovah, looking about for anyone who could have possibly abandoned such a young boy in the dead of winter, "Zu'u fen wahl hi ruz."
He took off into the sky upon seeing no one. Taking the boy home to Dragon's Den when the dragon cared for the boy and raised him as his own. This is where our story begins. Where a human boy becomes known for his strange adopted relations as the...
