Freedom

(Now for the 1st real chapter! I hope you comets like it! Just to clarify, italics means thoughts, bold means translation/another language)

The last of the monsters finally exited the Underground, followed swiftly by Sans; he wasn't going to stay down there another second if he could help it. sure hope the kid doesn't reset. i don't know if i could take another one. Sans thought as the last rays of the sun dipped below the horizon, allowing the stars to be viewed much clearer. The skeleton glanced up, this is the first time the kid's let me see the stars. Sighing, Sans made his way down the mountain. As he neared the bottom, he heard a scream of pain from behind him. Sans rushed back up to see a Froggit turning to dust.

Oh no. Sans ran over to the Froggit, "hey, hey, it's gonna be okay, you're gonna be fine."

"R-r-ribb-bbit." The Froggit croaked weakly. No I'm not! Sans took in a shuddering breath, the Froggit had probably fallen and what remained of its lower back was bent at a sharp angle. There was no way it would survive.

"okay, just relax. help's on its way." Other monsters had begun to gather around, several crying at the sight. A golden flower peeked out of a crevice in the rocks.

Flowey's face froze in shock, "What happened?!"

"not now weed!" Sans's permanent smile almost broke in anger; what right did the weed have to be concerned when he had caused suffering worse than this infinite times over.

Flowey flinched, "Hey, I was just asking." He looked at the Froggit, "Hey, show me your SOUL."

Sans shook his head, "ya don't have to do that." But the Froggit did anyway. Flowey studied it for a moment before nodding. Suddenly, smooth green vines shot from Flowey's main stem and wrapped around the SOUL.

"what the hell do ya think you're doing?!" Sans shouted as the SOUL was ripped from the dying Froggit. Flowey pulled the SOUL to his face, grimaced, and swallowed it whole. Immediately, the Froggit's remaining form turned to dust and it floated away on the wind. Sans turned to Flowey in fury, "what the hell did ya do!"

Flowey rose from the ground to Sans's face, "I saved his life! By taking his SOUL into my body we're now fused. He's going to live as a ghost from now on, visible only to monsters, but still alive. He gets to live and I get to have a SOUL again, no problems." As he finished speaking, he showed the SOUL which was now covered in thorny vines. A pale image of the Froggit appeared next to him and Flowey smirked in pride. Sans just stood up, brushed the dust off his hoodie, turned around and walked away.

"Hey! I just saved a life, and this is the thanks I get?" Flowey shouted at him.

Sans whipped around, his left eye glowing a faint cyan-gold, "it's gonna take a lot more than just one saved life to atone for your sins, buddy." Flowey shrunk back, dawning horror coming over his features.

"I... I-I... No! I didn't want this! I didn't want the guilt! Why is that all I can feel?" A tear slipped down his face.

Sans sighed, the weed was genuinely hurting, "because you've only got one soul. ya used to be a boss monster, it's going to take the equivalent of a boss monster's soul to fix ya. in the meantime, you'll only have one emotion or feeling at a time. enjoy the guilt." With that, Sans stood up and started back down the mountain, but paused midstem, "oh yeah, if anyone dies from some "suspicious circumstance", you'll wish ya had stayed in the underground." With that, the skeleton walked away, leaving a trembling flower behind

Sans passed out the blankets and pillows with Papyrus, exhaustion weighing down his bones.  At the base of the mou the monsters had set up a camp and everyone was waiting, much to Papyrus's chagrin, for dawn to meet the humans. Flowey had joined up with the group and had built several tent-like structures with his vines, attempting to alleviate his guilt by assisting others.
