Two Paths Connected by The Great Spirit

The Truth

A middle aged man was standing in a quiet break room as he hung up the phone with Alex saying, "Love you to." He had black hair with flecks grey starting to come through.He was dressed in a black button up dress shirt tucked into a pair of grey suit pants with a black belt around his waist and  his shirt was overlapped by a buttoned up grey vest. Around his neck was a black and grey checkered tie partially hidden by his collar and his vest. he wore a black suit jacket over the vest and tie. He ran his hand across his face to feel the fresh shave and the starting of new facial hair growing in since this morning.

                He turned to a door opening as an older bald man and an older grey haired woman stepped into the room. The man dressed in a suit, the woman dressed in black pants, a white blouse overlapped by a long lab coat.

          "Hello Dr. Gonzalez-Foster. Its hard getting away from the ER these days with the increased influx of patients" replied the woman as she took a seat a nearby conference table.

      "Would you care to sit Dr so we can begin?" asked the older bald man.

    "Yes" replied Miguel as he took a seat.

    "Why did you choose to apply to us?" asked the woman.

"A friend of mine told me about the job posting a few months back?"

"Whose your friend?"

"Dr. Natasha Voight."

"You know Dr. Voight?"

"Yes when she was starting out as a doctor years back in the Navy I served with her as a nurse" replied Miguel.

"I noticed that you applied for both the ER and Pediatrics Attending position. Why both?" asked the bald man.

"Dr. Rausch I applied because I focused in Pediatrics in my ER rotation and even spent time in the Peds ICU back in Virginia Beach" replied Miguel as he looked at Dr. Rausch.

"We do not have a Peds ER in this hospital and that is what you put down" replied the woman.

"Yes Dr. Greene, but with the area we are in you could benefit with a Peds Attending in the ER and I have the experience that is required" stated Miguel as he tried to read the other two's faces.

"I'll approve it Carrie" said Dr. Rausch as he turned to her then he continued with, "I will approve the application for Dr. Foster to join staff in the ER. I will look more into this Peds ER idea but for now Dr. Foster can be like everyone else down there." He turned to Miguel and said, "Welcome aboard Dr. Foster your our new ER Attending. When can you start?"

Miguel looked at him in surprise then replied with, "I can start tomorrow."

"Good, Carrie start him on what ever shift you need him to be one" said Dr. Rausch then he got up and left he room. Dr. Greene turned to Miguel and looked at him with a smile.

"Lets go down to the ER and finished up some paper work, we can talk on the way about a schedule" she said as she stood up and ushered him out of the conference room.

Jude and Taylor helped Alex to the Nurse's office and helped him sit down in a chair. "So Mr. Gonzalez-Foster when did you have that surgery and what type?"

"It was a heart replacement I needed after my heart failed and it has been one year as of yesterday since it" quietly replied Alex as he rubbed his chest.

"How'd it happen?" asked the nurse.

"I just collapsed one day during a soccer game back in Virginia and you can fill in the story from there" joked Alex then he took a deep breath then stood up from the chair.

"I think you need to go to the hospital for a cardiologist to check you out after a hit and seeing your response, it could have hit something important or damaged the transplanted heart."

"My father's a doctor, you can call him but I can tell you I am fine miss" said Alex as he straightened his shirt and grabbed his backpack off the ground where Jude had dropped it.

"You should take it easy" said Jude with concern.

"I'm fine, the pains gone now and I will check in with my dad later" replied Alex as he headed for the door.
