After going to sleep, I soon woke up in a dark room. There was nothing but pitch black. I couldn't even see the floor. But then, I heard him. My dad's voice. "Y/N...." "Dad?" I asked, running towards where I heard the voice, only to find the emptiness. "Don't bother. I'm not really here. I needed to talk with you." "Why can't you just come here and bring me home? Unless...you abandoned me." "I didn't abandon you. This was all supposed to happen. When the heir to the reaper's scythe is about to become the new god of death, they need to complete one final test." I had so many questions. He continued, "This test had to come without warning, so I'm sorry I couldn't have alerted you sooner. The test consists of going to the planet you will be looking after, and live as a normal human for a while until your test is completed." "How will I know when I can come home?" Father replied, "I cannot say. I'm not allowed to tell you what you have to do, but I will say that you need to learn as much as possible about the world. Eventually, you will come home. And when you do, I will retire, and you will become the new grim reaper." I sat in silence for a moment, mentally absorbing what he said. Eventually, he continued. "I have contacted you through your dreams to tell you this, but I'm afraid I must go after this. But know that since you are living as a normal human now, you have been stripped of your ability to not appear to mortals until the test is complete. But in return, I give you an aura." I thought about questioning what an aura was, but I would probably figure it out. He continued, "I also can, and will, provide you with a means to defend yourself." Suddenly, a dark purple orb appeared in front of me. It started to slowly grow until I can figure out what it is. A scythe. My dad's scythe. "Don't worry, I have another one." At this I was relieved. The god of death needed his scythe to defend against grimm, the only thing that can harm the reaper even when invisible. The god's touch of death also doesn't work against grimm.
I stared at the scythe. The blade looked made of bone, but was stronger than steel. And the handle was little more than a flimsy piece of wood. It looked simple, yes, but in the hands of death, I knew it was extremely powerful. I had seen it in action. At this, my father said, "I'm sorry, but I must go now. Good luck." I didn't fight it. I knew what had to be done. And then, I woke up. I had returned to my bed in the cabin in the woods. The scythe had now appeared right next to my bed. I rubbed my head, and felt a pain in my gut. I tried to think of what it was, and then realized. Hunger. True, I guess I was a human now that required all the basic human needs. I groaned and walked out of bed to the door. After turning the knob, I remembered something. I looked down at my leg. It was working just fine now. I shrugged it off because, if anything, I should be grateful it healed so fast.
I walked down the hallway, looking for the kitchen. My eyes caught a door that was cracked open in the hallway. "Maybe this is the kitchen?" I thought to myself, before opening it and proving myself wrong. It was a bedroom. It was similar to my own, except the bed was noticeably bigger, and it was in the center of the room. I saw the familiar red hair of Ruby asleep in the bed. I figured I should leave, but something felt like I should enter. I walked up to the side of Ruby's bed, quietly so she wouldn't wake up. I then leaned my face closer to hers. She looked kinda cute. Almost like a baby kitten or puppy. I lowered my hand down to her head, and wiped a strand of hair out of her eyes, before caressing her cheek. She smiled in her sleep. I then quickly retracted my hand, realizing what I was doing. I was about to leave the room, when I noticed a weapon by the nightstand. It must have been hers, but oh how I longed to swipe it. It was a scythe, like mine, except it was red and black colored. It looked more mechanical. Heavier. Deadlier. I saw her stirring in her sleep, and decided to leave the room quickly, and quietly. I took one last glance at Ruby, and closed the door.
