Chapter 7

ELIZA'S POV

A man, who couldn't be any older than 30 stalks into the classroom that we had been told to go to after dinner the night before. I hear a collective gasp around the room. It was the dark hair and the green eyes, gorgeous. And way out of everyone's leagues.

"Students, students, students." He calls out playfully as he places his coffee down on the desk "welcome to intro spy. You can call me Zen. I'll be your freshman year teacher, I guess you can think of me somewhat as a tutorial teacher. I'll be here to answer your questions, make something of your potential and guide you. You know, all that introductory 'father figure' stuff."

Sky looks at me with a sly grin from her assigned table across the room. Behind her, Maya and Arya are fidgeting with the pencils on their desks nervously. There are many unknown faces in the class, girls and boys of many different appearances and body statures.

"So these people will be our competition," I mutter to Isla, who sat next to me, a surprising degree of determination obvious on her face.

"Now, you are all here because you are your parents children. Some of you are even here just out of sheer potential. But you can have the perfect lineage and the most potential in the world and still not make it as a spy out in the real world."

He marches down the aisle of tables giving everyone apprehensive glances. "As your 'father figure', it is also my job to tell you of the risk. By the end of this year more than half of you will be gone; some of you dropped out, some of you kicked out and some of you dead."

The room is mostly silent, all that I can hear is boyish snickering at the back. Flicking my hair to cover up my peeking, my eyes shoot to the back of the room. It was a bulky boy, full of muscle and apparent cockiness. Zen walks towards him, oddly calm, "I like confidence, confidence is good," he says "but confidence is going to get you no where when you are holding your best friend's dead body and there is a bomb set to go off in 30 seconds."

There is a glimmer of pain in his eyes until he turns around, stalks to the front of the room and then looks back at us with a cheeky smile. "Now, with that out of the way, I am going to introduce Spy Academy to you with a bit of bang. Your first 'what to expect' class will be the first time you are ranked."

My head rises sharply in shock, already?

Loud whispering ensues around the room and panic sets in. Nobody is prepared this early to be ranked and to have to fight to be better than the other ninety-nine students that are in the room. To become number 1 meant privledges, comfort and status. We all know that if we want to secure a place in the academy, we need to be as close to number 1 as possible.

"I'm going to suggest to you that if you aren't prepared to give your life to serve the academy, serve the people and serve humanity for the rest of your life, give up now. Go, get out of here, save yourself. Just raise your hand and you're free" Zen yells with uncharacteristic seriousness.

The room stays silent, and he looks at us with what seems to be disappointment.

Is this the right choice? Can I give my life for strangers?

Sighing I keep my hands in my lap and look around the room, only time will tell I guess.

There were girls and boys who were strikingly beautiful, or who looked strong, or smart. Each person had something interesting whether big or small. I realise immediately that this will be a lot harder than normal sports at school. I won't easily be number one all the time. The people here had unmistakingly been trained by their parents their entire lives for the one day that they would find out their heritage and their already chosen future.

"Well then." Zac sweeps a glance across the entire room "follow me, Level 1."

Zac smashes his hand down on his desk, causing a large jolt and the entire class to jump up in shock. The desk looks as though it is sinking into the floor, but after a couple of moments it becomes obvious that the desk is opening up to become a staircase leading down to a level below the classroom. Zac silently walks down the stairs and one hundred students following their destinys gathered their things and said goodbye to their old lives.

There is a special section on the second page that I made for you guys, so if you are interested read ahead :)

Okay hi guys, short chapter, I just wanted to get some character devlopment on our friendly teacher Zac over here. I also wanted to just make it an introductory to the next chapter which will be the students first trial as spies in order to get them into their first rankage. The next chapter will probably be quite a bit longer as it stages tests that the characters have to overcome in order to get their placing in Level 1. I have already come up with a few ideas for the tests and begun writing but I'd love to hear your opinions and what sort of tests you guys would like to see.

Comment below and I'll give you a shoutout if I use your idea!

I've been getting lots of lovely comments and messages that mean so much to me so I thought I would do a new little section for you because of all the exam study that means I can't update as often as I would like to. So without further ado, please welcome Eliza to our little interview! If you want more interviews with Nala and other characters, or even multipe characters at once, or any questions for the characters please let me know!

Interviewer- Nala: So its been noticeable that you have caught the attention of a few of the boys here.

Eliza: Oh um (laughs), really?

Nala: (grins evily) I'm sure you will find out about it all real soon. Moving on, what are your thoughts on the academy?

Eliza: The food is so good, do you know who the cook is? I need to find out their secret!

Nala: Well, that certainly good, I guess. What about the technology?

Eliza: The technology is wicked cool. There are these level guards that ask for your name wherever you go and seem human. Oh and there are these cool rooms that are marked as out of bounds for level 1 students without a coach, but we snuck in and they are simulation rooms. They are so cool. The funniest thing happened while we were in there, so Isla and Maya were mucking around as usual and Arya came in moping about being left behind or something and then Sky (laughs hysterically), Sky went and switched on-----

Nala: I am going to have to stop you there Eliza, but it was super nice hearing about um.. food and... you breaking the rules. Um you might want to learn how to withhold some information there sport but good luck for your tests next chapter!

So that's all for this chapter, hope you guys enjoyed.

Love,

Tay x
