~Bertholdt's POV~
I frantically followed after Mikasa. I have no idea what the hell just happned right now but all I know is that Mikasa is pissed, and that I don't really know anyone here that well. Not even Mikasa. I just only met her less than an hour ago and already I'm in a fiasco with a crazed potato girl and some roommate blonde girl who was probably going to knife me for existing at the door of her dorm.
Who knows, the guys might come after me too for being associated with the girl who stole their precious snacks. Oh boy. I'm really in a jam now.
I found Mikasa at the bench attached to her window and quickly scurried over to her.
She was sitting there, staring out at the storm without regard for her own safety.
"Mikasa!" I whisper - shouted. "It's not safe we shouldn't be near the windows you can get cut if the window breaks!"
Yet, nothing. She didn't budge. Not a single word.
Anxeity became to overcome me. I've never been in such a situation. And I'm so bad with people, especially when they're in negative situations. What do I do?
I stopped for a moment. I took my eyes off of her and began to look around myself. Her bed in which the snacks she'd taken were dumped on. Her desk with a computer, chair, and laptop. My eyes scanned to room looking for something. Anything.
A mess of books were near a bookshelf and a pile of fresh laundry in a basket--Ah! I thought.
An 'ah-hah!' moment. There were her famously soft blankets again folded neatly next to the laundry. I grabbed a baby lavendar coloured one and went to go get some water from the mini kitchen. I went through some cabinents and finally found a glass to pour some water into. They had a water filter built into a pitcher. Fancy.
When I had everything I went over to her, approaching her calmly.
"Hey there." I whispered, scanning my brain of jumbled words, trying to think of what to say next. I placed the water in a space by her legs in front of herself. I sat down behind her, my back to her, with the blanket over my shoulder.
"I honestly don't know what to say. I-I'm not ... good." I paused. "With people. I don't really have a lot of friends here even after almost 2 years of schooling and, you're the first person I've come across who hasn't really made me feel like an outcast and--and I just wanted to say, thank you. Even if we've known each other for such a short time."
I got up and placed the blanket near her. "So I understand if you don't want to talk right now. I'll go find something to do in the mean time but please, don't sit near the window anymore. I want you to be safe." My words had flown out like water in a creek. I've never felt myself speak so naturally even if I did stutter a few times.
After only one step, I felt her hand around my wrist, stopping me from going anywhere."I'm ok." She spoke softly. "I just have history. With potato girl. I thought it'd be fun to mess with her and now, she's exploiting my weakness to mess with me too. Except this time, she crossed a line."
I turned around. She was still looking out at storm before us. She scooted over, indicating for me to sit and listen. I did so.
"I want to let you know" she turned around, fully facing me "I'm not as mean as I seem. I'm just reserved." Mikasa looked down, bringing her knees to her chest with her arms crossed above her knees and used them to rest her head on. "I only ever get a bit mean when I'm with Sasha. She's done some horrible things, half of which she may not even be aware of." She stopped for some time. I took the blanket and wrapped it around her. She opened it more to share it with me.
