Steve stood outside the diner a little apprehensive, he had never taken anyone out before. The mingling between angels and human was strictly frowned upon. He knew if Fury caught wind of it he'd bee in a lot of trouble, but there was just something about you.
Steve also knew that other angels had been sneaking and breaking a lot of rules lately. He knew that friendships between angels and human did happen, and as long as it kept quiet Fury tended to look the other way. However he wasn't like the others, he was Fury's right hand man, the one who wrote the rule book and lived by it.
When he lifted his eyes from the ground and they rested on you that book was thrown out the window yet again.
Steve's warm smile greeted you as he wrapped his arms around you.
"Hello to yourself." You said playfully, as he released you.
"How was the rest of you shift?" He asked, linking your arm with his as the two of you walked down the street.
"Boring, then again, work is almost always boring." You laugh lightly, the sound was music to his ears.
"Hopefully that's a good thing." He chuckled, watching you from the corner of his eye.
"I guess, some days I wish something exciting would happen but I'm sure I wouldn't know what to do if that happened." You said looking over to him. "Then again you showed up so there's that."
"Again, I'm sorry about last night." He said, taking a deep breath. "My boss can be a real pain, especially when things don't go the way he wants them to."
"So what do you do for work then?" You asked him, not realizing your surroundings had changed so suddenly.
"A mix between security and asset protection." He responded taking a deep breath, stopping in front of a pair of oak doors. The Light was written in a scripted font above the oak doors. Briefly you looked around trying to figure out where in the city you were. "Trust me, this place has some of the best food."
You scrunched up your face at his words, a calm familiarity from last night covered you. The same words Bucky had said to you before you had stepped into Dark Reign. Steve pulled the door open for you as you crossed the threshold.
It was quite the opposite of the bar you had went to, where as everything had been dark, and crowded, that tense feeling. The Light had the perfect amount of lighting, everything screamed comfort and warmth. From the cherry wood floors the plush booths.
Steve guided you up to the hostess, a startling young woman with auburn hair greeted him.
"Steve, its good to see you again." She greeted him with a warm smile and quick hug. Her accent unfamiliar to your ears.
"Wanda, the is y/n." He told her gesturing to you. She took your hands in hers and looked at you in way that made it feel like she could invade the dark corners of your mind, her smile faltered for a brief moment. "And this is my dear friend Wanda."
"It's pleasure to meet you, y/n, any friend of Steve's is welcomed here." She turned to look at him, narrowing her eyes. Quickly she shook her head, gathering two menus. "Where are my manners, let me seat you."
Steve placed his palm lightly at the small of your back as he guided you behind the woman. You couldn't help this feeling that all eyes were on you as you followed the her, the building seemed to fall silent. She stopped and held her hand out to an empty booth.
"Is there anything I can get you to drink?" She asked as you slid in, you looked over at Steve and shrugged.
"Couple of glasses of wine." He replied never taking his eyes off of you. Wanda excused herself and left the side of the table.
"Is it just me, or did it get really quiet when we came in?" You asked nervously.
"It did, I know most of the people in this room to be honest, and none of them have seen me bring anybody in here before." He replied, reaching forward placing his hand over yours.
"Do you come here often?" You find yourself asking, flipping through the menu, unable to read the language it was written in.
"Yes, at least once a week." He tells you, looking at his own menu.
"What language is this?" You ask, feeling hopelessly lost trying to make sense of it.
"It's Latin, sorry, I didn't even think about it before I brought you." He stood walking over to your side, motioning for you to scoot over. Steve slid in the booth next you, his arm over the back. "Pullum is chicken, bubulae is beef, angus is lamb, piscis is fish, anseris aequabis is goose."
"Alright, this is going to be an interesting first date." You giggle looking up at him. "And evidently a lesson in Latin."
"It's an easy language to learn, so back to the menu, which would you prefer and I can read you the selection."
"Hmmm, beef." You tell him, watching as he looked back down at the menu and began translating the selection.
He read them carefully to you and you found it oddly entertaining as he did. He added commentary as he did, telling you his personal favorites and which ones he didn't care much for. You could get wrapped up in just listening him talk, his voice was so calm and gentle, like a warm throw blanket covering you.
"I think the beef stew one sound the best." You tell him as he finished. Wanda came back and took both of your orders, Steve didn't make an attempt to move back to his seat.
"So you know Latin, any other languages?"
"Greek, Italian, a bunch of other ones." He told you, shrugging. "My father wanted to make sure that I could communicate well."
"Wow, and here I only know English and get tripped up over that one." You laughed lightly, playing with your napkin.
"Have you ever thought of picking up a second language?" He asked, shifting to face you better.
"I have but.. it just seems so hard so I keep pushing it off."
"Okay, try gratias tibi, when Wanda comes back with our food." He smiles.
"Gratias tibi?"
"Thank you." He grins, your heart skipped realizing that he was going to teach you.
As if on cue Wanda came up to your table, dishes in hand gently placing them in front of the two of you.
"Gratias tibi." You tell her crossing your fingers you said it right.
"Te gratissimum." She responded with a quick smile before bowing out. You look at Steve with a confused look.
"You're welcome." He translated for you.
