The two of you talked for hours, slowly you loosened up. The feeling of being out of place in the restaurant was gone. Maybe is was Steve's gentle nature or the glass of wine, you weren't sure but you felt you could be completely open with him. Tell him your darkest secrets, your fears, your hopes. Not that your were going to tonight, but if you wanted to you knew you could.
"But really, back in the times of the Ancient Egyptians they needed something to explain things like the sun and the moon. The reasons why the earth moved the way it." You explained as you and him talked about ancient civilizations, a somewhat passion of yours.
"So what your saying is today's religion is still the same story as the Egyptians?" He mused, a slight humor in his eye.
"Look, I mean no offense if you believe, but when it comes to gods, devils. Blaming the good or the bad in the world on them? I think people need to accept the credibility in their own lives." You tell him taking a sip of your wine.
"Then how do you explain the bus incident today? I'm sure you've heard about it?" He asked, before continuing. "That man who stopped the street beggar even said he felt something that made him want to step in."
"It's called having compassion and survival instincts. And yes, that bus was part of the reason I was late to work. You have a very mentally sick man, living on the street with no way to afford medicine to help him and something flipped. He went from being just a harmless street beggar to a bus hijacker. Then you have a normal every day man, who's life has been put into jeopardy, he did the first thing that came to his mind. Please tell me, you don't think he was an angel?"
"No, of course not, but maybe it might have been Devine intervention? I see your logic, but still, in the man's own words he heard someone call out to stop the man." Steve countered calmly. This had to have been the first, having a rational debate about out this topic. You knew how quickly people were to anger on the subject and usually let the topic drop.
"Okay then what do you think happened? By your logic, the man heard someone tell him to stop the beggar, how can a Devine being tell him stop someone if we are under gods free will?" You cocked your head to the side and studied his face, Steve reached out placing his hand on yours.
"Your right, that's the thing with gods free will. You can't be told what to do, but he can ask of you to do his bidding in times of crisis" his face warm, and for a moment you wished you believed him. But in your life you had experienced to much pain and heart to believe in such things.
"I guess we will have to agree to disagree." You say, looking around realizing the diner was nearly empty. "It's getting late, I should probably get home."
Steve nodded before sliding out of the booth, allowing you to get out. That's when you felt full force of the heavenly wine hit you. The world tilted for a brief moment, as a sudden wave of warmth coated your body. Your nerve endings suddenly buzzed with excitement.
"Whoa." You said, shaking your head slightly.
"You okay?" Steve asked with concern, he wasn't sure how the wine would effect you when he ordered it. You giggled a bit, knowing you probably looked like a fool for getting drunk on a glass of wine.
He lead you out of the building, the cool air from night enveloped you. Steve took his jacket off and offered it to you, you slid it on covering your bare arms taking a deep breath in a scent that his purely him.
Both of you walked a comfortable silence, your arm neatly tucked into the crook of his elbow. You rested your head on his shoulder, happy and content. You sighed deeply, this was an amazing first date, sure you had had a blast with Bucky but this was different. You actually got know Steve.
"So do you have any plans this weekend?" He asked, looking over at you.
"The girls and I usually get together on Saturdays but with our usual bar being burnt to a crisp I'm not sure what we'll do." You looked back up at him, a sudden pang of guilt flooded through his body.
He knew the real reason that bar burned down, him and the demon going a few rounds. That was before Bucky had used the hell fire.
"If you and the girls don't go out to do anything I'd like to take you out again, if that's okay with you."
"That's more then okay." You smiled up him, feeling giddy at spending more time with him.
"Really? Even though I'm a believer?" He asked holding your eye contact, God, you could get lost in those blues.
"I would never fault someone on their beliefs, as long as you don't go around shoving it down other people's throats." You respond, just like before the walk seemed to end to short. Soon you recognized your surroundings and knew you were close to home.
Your mind whirled around in thought trying to figure this out, and you looked back up him. Just like the snap of your fingers those thoughts were pushed to the back of your head. You stopped out front of your apartment. Your heart skipped a beat when he stepped to you, wrapping a powerful arm behind your body. He pulled you flush against him before leaning his head down and pressing a tender kiss on your lips.
"That's good, I hate not to see you again." He said softly, his forehead against yours. You brought your hand up, resting it on his cheek before tilting your head up to kiss him again.
Steve broke the kiss, placing his hand on yours turning his head into it. His lips moved softly against the inside of your wrist before placing a gentle kiss above your pulse. Little to your knowledge he had marked you in response to the demons mark on your other wrist. You looked at him, a little sad that tonight had to end, but happy knowing you would get to see him in the future.
"I should say goodnight." He murmured, placing one last kiss on your head. You nodded, taking a step back.
"Steve, tonight was amazing, thank you." You tell him as he backed way. "Good night."
You walked into your apartment building not realizing the implications of the marks on either side of your body. The mark of hell of your right, and the mark of heaven on your left, neither of which you could see.
