It had been two days since Specter started staying at the mountain and he mostly kept to himself. Most of the time they didn't even know where he was which they found slightly odd because there weren't a lot of places to hide in the mountain if you knew where to look. The next time Batman came to visit he didn't see Specter anywhere and he looked at the team, "Where's Specter?"
Aqualad spoke, "We have hardly seen him since he came here."
Batman mentally sighed, "We'll have to find him then."
"Why would you want to do that?" Specter was leaning on the wall with his arms crossed, he looked slightly confused as well as irritated.
Batman raised an eyebrow at him, "Where were you?"
Specter hummed, "Well I got bored so I decided to explore the mountain and somewhat enjoy my freedom. I'll only have it for an undoubtedly short amount of time and I'm sure you want as few people around my insanity as possible."
Batman was actually a bit surprised by what Specter said but he didn't show it, "What makes you think you won't be free for very long?"
Specter laughed for a few seconds, "Oh come on, either you'll get tired of having an insane dead teenager around or I'm going to get caught again. I'm honestly surprised that you haven't told the rest of the League about me though, they probably won't be to thrilled about my existence."
Specter got a bit angry, "Would you shut up already, I already know all of that so you can stop telling me over and over again!"
Specter turned to his left and glared at nothing, "Yeah because that would make it so much better." The sarcasm in his voice was clearly there, he didn't look to happy about whatever it was that had pissed him off.
Specter turned to his right, "You stay out of this, you'll just piss me off even more." Specter groaned before he face palmed, "You two are so goddamn loud, can I at least finish this conversation before you continue to shout at me?!" Specter threw his hands into the air, "Thank you!"
Specter turned to Batman again, "Sorry, what were we talking about?"
Batman gave Specter a strange look, "How often does that happen?"
"Why do you want to know?"
"Because I'd like to find out how far gone you're mind is to see if something can be done to help you."
Specter started to laugh a little, his laughter grew until it sounded just as crazed as the other times he laughed like this. Specter held onto his sides because he was laughing so hard and he fell but he didn't seem to care. After a few minutes he managed to calm down and he stood up again while he took a few breaths.
"That's funny, you think you know anything about how to help an insane ghost, it's been a long time since I've heard something that funny."
Batman glared at Specter a little, "I'm not joking."
Specter smirked, "Batsy, even the voices are laughing, if those two laugh then you can bet that it's fucking hilarious."
Batman stared at the teen for a second, "Why do you think it's so funny?"
Specter laughed a little again, "Because you have no idea what you're doing, you might just make it worse." Specter laughed at the shocked and confused faces of the heroes, he leaned against the wall again. "Is there any other reason I'm here or was that it?" No one spoke and Specter shrugged to himself before he walked out of the room and he hid in the vents like he had been since coming to the mountain.
Specter listened to what the heroes were saying but it wasn't that interesting, just Batman asking the team what had happened since he got here. Specter waited until the team went back to the living room area and he followed them to see if something interesting would happen. The voices were talking but Specter just tuned them out and continued observing the team.
They were all talking and Specter couldn't make out all of the words because of the two voices. He picked up a few things and they seemed to come to an agreement before Aqualad spoke, "Then it's settled, let's look for Specter."
Specter stopped himself from laughing and he quickly moved to lean against a wall, "That's not going to be too hard."
A few of the heroes jumped as they all turned to look at him, Specter laughed a little as the heroes calmed down. Kid Flash crossed his arms, he looked like a pouting child, "Would you stop doing that?"
Specter hummed, "No, if you're going to jump every time I do that then I'll never stop because it's funny as hell. So why the hell were you going to look for me, there's literally no reason for you to want to talk to me."
Artemis gave him a strange look, "Why wouldn't we want to talk to you?"
Specter didn't know whether to roll his eyes or laugh at the young heroes stupidity. He settled for a exasperated look, "Because I'm insane, who in their right mind wants to deal with someone that's insane?" Specter paused before turning to his left, "That's completely different and you know it."
Aqualad raised an eyebrow, "Are you talking to the voices again?"
Specter looked at the heroes again, "Yeah."
Miss Martian looked at the ghost curiously, "But how do you hear voices in your head when they aren't even real?"
Specter hummed before he turned to his right and growled, "Would you give me a chance to explain before you shout at me?" He rolled his eyes, "Yeah, I get it, just quiet down so I can answer her question." Specter huffed and after a few seconds he rolled his eyes, "Fine, whatever, as long as you quiet down I don't care."
Specter looked at the heroes again, "Sorry about that, so you want to know how I hear nonexistent voices in my head?" Megan nodded and Specter mentally sighed, "It's a bit hard to explain but I can try."
Specter cleared his throat a little before he spoke again, "I slowly went insane over the course of several years. After a while I started hearing voices and to other people they don't exist but I can hear them as clearly as I can hear you. I know their not real but I can't get rid of them no matter how hard I try so I'm stuck with them."
Specter suddenly facepalmed and he turned to his left, "Really, as soon as I'm done you start shouting at me again, what the hell?" Specter turned to the heroes again, "I'm going to go before the voices get any louder." Specter left and the young heroes wondered what they should do now, Robin was a bit confused though.
He didn't know why but he wanted to know more about the voices Specter heard and about the ghost teen himself. Robin thought for a second and decided to see if he could find Specter and talk to him alone. None of the other heroes were paying attention so when Robin walked out of the room they didn't notice.
