"But Mum, I don't want to go to this symphony orchestra thing! Everyone there will be old, and it'll be boring!"
"Lucas Robert Hemmings!" she scolded, "I'm taking you to the jazz show, and not everyone there will be old. There are thousands of people your age that love classical music."
"But I'm not like them," I told her quietly. "Well, let's go and get this over with," I sighed.
My mum rolled her eyes before walking to the door. She opened it and stood by it waiting for me to go through. I sulked all the way to the car.
"I bet you'll like it," she giggled.
I scowled.
The drive to the music hall was silent and very awkward. I am so bad at starting conversations. The whole time I wanted to say something, but I couldn't find my voice. I just sat there texting my friend Calum like a twelve year old girl. I mean I was asking what he did all day. I think in my soul, I'm an obsessive, twelve year old girl.
"When we get there I want you to give me your mobile," Mum said breaking the silence.
I sighed, "Okay." I hate giving Mum my mobile.
"We're here!" she chirped parking the car.
I scowled.
"Stop scowling, you'll end up with wrinkles," she said putting her hands on her hips.
I scowled and got out of the car. I followed her as she walked through the parking lot and into the music hall. We found our seats and sat down. The elderly man sitting next to me was alarmed to see a teenage boy with ripped skinny jeans and a lip ring sitting next to him. I rolled my eyes at his staring and got comfortable. I was planning on sleeping through the concert.
It took forever for the concert to start. I mean, the orchestra came out like twenty minutes ago and they're still tuning. Finally, a middle aged woman walked out and stood front center. The leader guy waved his hands and the woman started singing. I wasn't paying attention enough earlier to catch her name. After a while, the orchestra started playing with the singer.
My mum and I were sitting in the third row, so I had a perfect view of everyone on the stage. I took the opportunity to study each musicians' face. I started with the right side. I looked at the cellists and the bass players, there weren't very many interesting people in that section. There was a guy with hair longer than my Mum's and it was a bright orange color. I moved on to the next section. Still, only a few people caught my attention. There was a woman playing the oboe, and she looked like she was about to fall asleep in the middle of the first piece. I saw a few college age kids playing various instruments from the French Horn to the Double Bass. Finally, I got to the violin section. I stopped when my eyes landed a girl my age. I was still a little ways away so I couldn't exactly see her features, but from what I could tell she was gorgeous. I was staring at her for the rest of the concert.
After the concert, I jumped up from my seat eager to get to the lobby. Maybe I could meet the girl.
"Here's your mobile. Did you like it?" Mum asked holding out my mobile.
"Yeah," I said grabbing my phone. I quickly made my way out to the aisle.
"Good. Wait, where are you going?" she asked standing.
"I have to go do something," I shouted. Finally I made it into the lobby. I couldn't see any of the musicals coming from the backstage door at the bottom of a staircase by the bathrooms. Maybe, there's an exit outside. I ran outside where I saw a steady stream of people in all black with cases making their way to their cars. I frantically searched for the girl. Finally, I caught a glimpse of her brown bun on the top of her head. I pushed through the crowd to get to her. She was moving away so quickly. I can't let her put of my sight. I have to get to her, I have to. Where did she go? There she is. She pulled out her keys and pressed the unlock button. I found the car that was lit up by the press of the button. I ran to it.
